I had an earlier post on this subject.

All the facts from that post are true are true from what I was able to find. Nancy did fire the women's rowing coach ( a man) and hired a former UW and ND coach who was female.

Not only had the male coach helped bring home a national title several years ago. I just learned, he was so dedicated to the sport and school, he had provided the program all it's equipment...boats, oars etc. Now, that Nancy replaced him with her crony UC is forced to invest in the gear out of the sports budget.

"Vision trumps everything"

That's good.

Hopefully the rowing coaches won't have to spend their own money anymore.

It was more of a personal issue with the coach and team. Lets leave it at that. It had nothing to with the success of the team or the great job the coach did on the river etc.

"T", have you noticed that Dr. Zimpher has quite a few firings where the reason is nebulous at best and where the reason can't be divulged. I can see that happening with a couple of terminations, but there seems to be more than one would expect with the current administration. Is this a fluke or part of a pattern?

I have met some of the team members, they are talking about a lawsuit with UC for firing him...obviously, I can't imagine there being any merit to such a case, but a couple of the girls' fathers are lawyers.

According to the two I met, they loved the previous coach. There personal issues were with Nancy and the administration

The question is "what the hell is Nancy doing involving herself in the hiring and firing of the women's rowing coach?" Isn't this something that any AD could handle responsibly and capably. Is this woman so involved in every hiring and firing decision that she isn't actually performing CEO-like duties. Does she hire and fire food service personnel and maintenance workers as well. There seems to be no limit to her "reach". Let people do their jobs. She has been a disaster for this university.

I hope with the new AD she backs off totally from athletics. She got her way now let the people do their jobs. She is way over involved!
The scrutiny she has placed on the athletics could be made into a movie!! Everyone has her spies breathing down their back.

I hope everyone is still boycotting the BOT and their businesses. Doesn't look like not going to games has influenced Nancy one iota. On the other hand, if the BOT's pocketbooks start to hurt, well, Nancy has to actually answer to them.

At least this issue is allowing the "just basketball fans" to take an interest in other UC sports!

Why couldn't she just have taken the gig in Vermont?

ZIMPHER WITHDRAWS FROM UVM PROVOST SEARCH
by Rick Blount

Nancy L. Zimpher has withdrawn her name from a list of six candidates for the position of provost at The University of Vermont. Currently dean of the College of Education at The Ohio State University and executive dean of the university's Council of Professional College Deans, Zimpher visited UVM Oct. 20 and 21 and announced her decision today.

"I am committed to my role as dean of the College of Education at Ohio State and the additional opportunities it provides me across campus and in the community," Zimpher stated in a letter today to Dr. John W. Frymoyer, chair of the search committee and dean of the UVM College of Medicine. "In the final analysis, it was my assessment of this leadership role at OSU against a provost role at this time that led to my decision. It took going through a search and coming to the possible reality of assuming such a role elsewhere to reach this conclusion."

"You have much to be proud of at UVM, and have great promise for the new century," Zimpher wrote. "I am confident that you will identify an outstanding individual for the role of Provost."

Expressing appreciation for the resolution, Chancellor Zimpher noted that she had a lot to learn when she arrived in 1998 as a new chancellor and that she had learned much in the board’s meeting room. She has been very fortunate, she observed, to have had the opportunity to benefit from the leadership of President Lyall and the Board of Regents and to work with a distinguished team of UW chancellors.
Among the lessons that she had learned were: 1) Organizations are most effective when a well-articulated and ambitious vision of the future exists; 2) a coherent vision is derived at the hands of many, including various interests and constituencies; and 3) it is necessary to have the pocketbook to match the aspirations that result.

Frankly Nancy, you've FAILED. Go back to OSU..Your UC vision is ill-articulated, incoherent in the fans and donors eyes, and the pocketbook is sewn shut until u leave.

the BOT's were just as responsible or even more to blame than Nancy z. They had the power to stop it. In regards to hoping that the new A.D. will allow the N.Z. to back off, well, don't be surprised if AD Thomas ends up having a sex change. Probably something decided upon before taking the job.
