RE: FWIW - Tulane/Big East
Congrats Coogs, you have basically screwed Rice by existing in the same city as us. I have to think the only reason we aren't in the BE is being in the same town as UH. If SMU/Tulane was in Houston and we were in Dallas/NO (or there was a no football UT-Houston and Andre Ware had played for University of Dallas) I think we'd have been invited to the BE.

Whether the BE will be appreciably better at this point, I don't know.

No reason to want to be in the BE once all the good teams leave... especially if they are bringing up more teams with terrible football.

Nope. I'm sick of pretending that all of our rivals leaving for another conference while we stay behind in this hell hole of a conference is a good thing.

RE: FWIW - Tulane/Big East
I'm a little surprised everyone is shocked by this.

Unlike USM and ECU, we have only one other BCS program in our state.

Unlike USM and ECU, we don't have a direction in our name. I'm not a snob on this, but I think some of the basketball schools in the BE are when it comes to "institutional profile", at least as an all sports member.

We have some really fertile recruiting territory.

We have a bowl in our home city (Actually two, but we can't deliver the sugar bowl to the Big East obviously).

Wins and losses really don't matter, or Maryland wouldn't be going to the B1G.

Sorry guys. Don't mean any of these as knocks, just trying to explain what we offer in terms of what is actually driving these decisions (not on-field performance)

RE: FWIW - Tulane/Big East
It honestly shocks me at how many people get surprised by the way conference realignment shakes out. It is not about earning a spot in a Big 4, 5, or 6 conference. It is about perception. Tulane has a solid market, but keep in mind that they were a charter founding member of the SEC. They belonged to the old boy network before. They have strong academics. It's all about perception.

Wow, the Big East (aka new CUSA) has officially given up.

Yes, as of late we do suck in the Win/Loss department but you can't count out things like...

AAU University
New Orleans (market and travel destination)
Superdome
Sugar Bowl
New Orleans Bowl
Over 100 Million investment in Athletics (New Baseball Facility, Basketball Practice Facility, On Campus Football Stadium)
Heart of SEC country
Hot bed of talent in New Orleans to recruit

You can make basically the same sort of argument about Rice. Except that UH is already in the BE.

Don't blame Tulane for leaving, but I now go from rooting for you when we aren't playing to hoping you lose every single game in every sport, even if it means rooting for a @#$%ing SEC team.

Wouldn't you guys have also brought that?

This fails as analysis. You need to look a bit deeper as to why we were selected. Its based on potential. We have only one other BCS program in our state and are in a major city.

UAB beat reporter just tweeted that our no-go on the stadium is probably what is holding UAB back.

Sets up East-West divisions:

EAST
UL
UC
Temple
ECU
UCF
USF

WEST
SMU
Houston
Boise
SDSU
Memphis
Tulane

I've long since stopped understanding conference realignment.

What a crock of ****. USM's administration should be gang-raped by angry chimpanzees.

By the end of the week you will likely need to replace UL and UC as well. Perhaps UMass and whatever market is left. Toledo?

Nothing makes my Cougar heart jump for joy more than seeing a Rice Owl suffer. This is simply payback from you guys trying to destroy us when you had the chance back when you guys were one of the big boys packing in 50-70k.

I'll be honest, I really expected the B12 to come calling to Tulane before the Big East did. The murmurs were there for the BXII.. the BE came out of the blue.

That said, I won't miss Tulane all that much; but they should definitely have their pockets lightened on the way out.

Andre, you're I pull for LSU says it all.
