RE: Southern Miss and Marshall
I agree with alot of the ECU sentiment on this board. I will miss CUSA and I feel in many ways this is a lateral move and even insulting to us that we can't get a full invite.

With that said, this was the only choice ECU realistically has and turning it down would be saying we are okay with the status quo.

I hate leaving Southern Miss and Marshall.

I think ODU is going to be a monster in this conference and would have been great for us too. I think if this had of happened in 5/7 years instead of 2012, ODU would be getting this invite and it would have been a full one.

I wish they had of taken Tulsa as well but it is what it is. I have enjoyed being apart of this conference, I am excited though that we finally have gotten where most of Greenville wants to go. Even if Big East and CUSA in so many ways are even .... perception wise it isn't.

I know as a ECU fan I hate Big East and how I treated us and alot of the schools that they have taken and haven't taken. I think the truth is had they added some of these schools a few years ago, they wouldn't have been raided as badly as they were.

I hope every fan of this conference finds themselves in a good position for their University and their fans when all this dust is settled.

RE: Southern Miss and Marshall
I am sick over losing you guys. I am sick over getting stuck left behind. Hopefully it will only be temporary.

Examples of rivalries lost:

ECU-Marshall
ECU-Southern Miss
Marshall-UCF
Southern Miss-Tulane
Southern Miss-UCF
ECU-UCF

Anyone see a trend here?

It's sad to see this go away. IMO, Rivalries are what gets someone to watch the damn TV games. Who cares about Wazzu or UW on TV, but if they are playing the Apple Cup, you might watch. At least it's newsworthy. But now it's all gone to markets. Nobody really cares if people watch apparently, they just want you to be in the market to get the money. At some point that doesn't make sense though. it does for the B1G, but the BTN is a completely different beast than is trying to add media markets and hoping that helps your TV deal enough that Boise stays.

The SEC is built on regional rivalries, but has gotten so large in the past 50 years, they are considered a national conference, even though the are the most tight knit group out of all of the leagues out there.

To the Memphis fan that said "NO", I totally feel for you guys. You finally, finally get your chance at the conference you've been dreaming about for the past couple times you've been snubbed over. Now, the new league you just get into, is on the verge of loosing one of your main rivals in Louisville, and the basketball schools are about to bolt. So what do you do? You have this football program that you have to think about. What the hell do you do? Georgetown, Villanova, St Johns, the whole bunch you'd love to see in the FedEx Forum all season long are on their way out. You're welcome to come with, but ooooo, **** guys, sorry, we've got this problem of a tag along football program. We gotta go with these guys. ****.

AS a die-hard Herd supporter, I really want to be with you guys. You are our rivals. I want to be in a conference for a long, long time with Southern Miss, UCF, and especially ECU. And I'd do whatever it took to get there. I don't want to sell out our other sports, but what option did ECU have? None, really.

Like one of the other posters said, we had the invite from the original CUSA to come in as football only, and move all our other sports to the Horizon League. it was all worked out and then fell through. Had we gone, things could have been a lot different.

WVU and VT both started out as Big East football onlies, and had their other sports in the A-10 for years. No one seems to remember that.

I have wanted the Herd in the Big East for a long time. I just hope that we make it back with our conference brethren, and our rivalries where we belong. At least IMO.

RE: Southern Miss and Marshall
The reasoning is this:

The BBall schools wouldn't approve ECU as a full member.

News just surfaced that if the BE loses more teams to the ACC that ECU will then be added as all sports member.

Translation: BBall schools won't have to be associated with the old CUSA if Louisville and UConn leave for the ACC. No reason to.

You can't be following expansion and believe that the bball schools are truly committed to making this work, no matter what.
You have to know that them splitting away is now an even bigger possibility that it ever has been.

UofL will be the straw that broke the camels back. Add UConn, and its pretty much a given.

I do fell bad for your bball program. It's a sucky choice to have to make. Keep in a big time bball league, or stick with your fb program.
I also feel bad for you because I know how big a rival UofL is for you guys. It sucks.

That being said, I love being in a conference with you guys. You are a flagship program and I really enjoy playing you in fb and in bball.

Thats one way of looking at it. If that was thier intention, theres no real reason to invite anyone right now. Sit tight and let the dominoes fall. Once 2 are taken, they can disband the conference. The fact that they are proactively replaceing one lost team and another they expect lose, indicates they have decided NOT to disband the conference. What I think they also do not want, is the football playing all-sports members to have any larger a voting majority than necessary (preferably, none at all). I bet they cap full members at 8--9 tops. Which is why ECU wont be a full member until another full member leaves. I also think they will balance out the voting by adding olympic-sports only members from the A-10. A similar compromise between the football and basketball schools occurred back when Louisville, USF, and Cinci were added.

I'll enjoy the payday while you continue to do nothing in CUSA football...hey maybe you can win CUSA now that UCF and ECU have left...jk I wish ECU and Marshall could keep the rivalry going!

Payday? Are you serious?....LOL

I think you will find out soon enough that the "payday" went out the door with WVU, Pitt, Cuse, Rutgers and soon to be Louisville, UCONN and Cincy. At least be realistic about it.

More than CUSA will be getting..worth the move to me. I'm starting to sense a trend with some Herd fans. Even if we don't get more money I'll be happy we're playing the old CUSA teams instead of the new ones!

I'll believe it when I see it. How do you expect to get a much larger chunk of revenue when the remaining schools are former CUSA/MWC members? And being a partial member?

I'm still not convinced that Boise and SDSU sticks around either once Louisville/UCONN hits the road. It might have been a good move as a full member, but I just don't see how its a good move as a partial member. Just doesn't add up. Like I said, I'll believe it when I see it. Either way I hope that it works out good for ECU. You guys got a great fan base.
