If C-USA is considering NMSU as possible invite....
the Sun Belt should offer them membership quickly. A bird in hand, so to speak, for a school with no conference home. Sun Belt needs teams badly now but the Sun Belt should make them sign a contract guaranteeing they won't turn right around and take a C-USA invite within a specified time.

Sun Belt has no buyout. They can add NMSU today but we can still take them tomorrow.

RE: If C-USA is considering NMSU as possible invite....
WHY IN THE HELL IS CUSA EVEN CONSIDERING NMSU!!!
Im about to drive to Irving and start screaming at people.
Why are we in such a rush? Where are these schools going. Does FAU or MTSU have ANY other suitors...No.
Weve made two decent adds...La Tech and UTSA. We couldve probably gotten NIU and Ohio if we didnt blow our nut on these early adds. But no WE HAD TO HAVE FLORIDA!!! Now we have to have Murfreeseeboro. Now we HAVE TO HAVE LAS CRUCES!!!!
Its maddening.
Hair is sitting back and laughing just waiting to pick off UTEP and Tulsa.

What makes you think UTSA was a good add?
(Relax UTSA fans, I'm not shitting on your program, just wondering why he views you guys as a good add, but not ODU)

For a "flagship" school with a long FBS tradition, there sure is a lot of NMSU hatred out there. I'd like to understand it, but I think I'd have to visit their campus and see it to figure this out.

I couldve lived with this. I cannot live with what those idiots in Irving did. I mean where would FIU, UNCC, ODU, MTSU, UNT have gone if not CUSA? No where. Its just nuts. The conference was fine @ 12. It wouldve been fine if it stayed @ 12 going forward. Now the league will lose two more and they will panic and add some more spares.
Tulsa
UTEP
Rice
UTSA
La Tech
UNT
Marshall
UAB
Southern Miss
Ohio
NIU
FIU/FAU

RE: If C-USA is considering NMSU as possible invite....
The CUSA is being proactive to remain as a conference. If UAB, USM, Marshall, Tulsa, and UTEP all left, the conference would fall apart and the SBC would sweep up a few of the remaining future members. Instead, CUSA is picking up schools to guarantee that it exists in case those schools do leave. If they offered in the future after those schools are gone, we don't say no, we say hell no.
I don't understand why some of you guys don't get this.

That's exactly right. If you wait until your numbers are way down you have no negotiating power. I expect WKU and hopefully either Ark St or ULL to get to 16. Texas St would be a good add too but I don't think UNT or UTSA want that. At least that's my impression.

some people dont get it because they think they belong in the sec or something. I agree with what has been done because this is far from over and conf usa is trying to protect its identity when all dust settles they will still have a conf and a job

+2
If you sit around and wait for it to shake out you end up like the WAC and Sun Belt. Denver, Idaho, and Cal State Bakersfield or something...

The number right now appears to be 14. When the SEC or the Big 10 go to 16, then you go to 16, not before. C-USA is now at 14 with UNCC and ODU. That's plenty unless the ground starts moving again.

Stay in the Sun Belt or Stay in the Sun Belt.

There's no precedent for an FBS conference just collapsing while other lesser conferences survive.

Right. If you guys leave along with the other schools mentioned above, and CUSA extends an invite, we decline. Everyone in the Sun Belt declines because there is no value anymore, and we can add a few of the remaining schools. CUSA dies.
There is no precedent because conference commissioners know what they're doing.
