I agree. Let the Sun Belt throw NM State a lifeline.

There are Sun Belt fans that want them...can't understand it personally. It's mostly Cajun fans who want them...even that I can't understand. It would be like me wanting MT to be in a conference with UMASS.

I am not certain how picky the SBC can be right now. They need ready programs and there are fewer of them to be found. The two schools that could move up quickly would likely be Appy State and Liberty. From what I am reading SBC fans are not really interested in Liberty. Every other FCS school mentioned has had some questions around wether they would actually move.

Did they laugh afterwords? With all the conference shuffling it could have been in jest.

If UTEP and Tulsa are gone to the MWC, I would expect that it means one of two things, possibly both:

(1) BYU has told the MWC that it will not rejoin the conference; SDSU and Boise State have said the same.

and/or

(2) Two teams are leaving the MWC to join the BE; my bets would be on UNLV or SJSU and Fresno State (who could park their Olympic sports in the Big West)

This needs to all end soon so that we all can get back to enjoying college sports. Here's to hoping that we all wind up in better places...

Honestly if Boise and San Diego St were to return to MWC then I'd think it's more likely that SMU & Houston would join them and possibly one of either UTEP or Tulsa

Is it true that some of the incoming Big East schools have certain stipulations that if the television contract doesn't come back as what they were promised, they can leave with no penalty?

Round and round we go. Where conference realignment stops nobody knows.

The Ga Tech/Virginia to the Big 10 rumors continue to swirl.

If Monday brings any movement, one would suspect this would be it.

I was at the game and just listened this morning. They most definitely weren't joking. It was a planned "piece" that started by talking about the rough week with our dip$hit AD and the gambling.

The oddest part was he said Tulsa had a "choice" to make Monday.

Rumblings out of Tulsa the last week is that we are still talking and looking at east or west. I personally think we are waiting on the BSU/SDSU thing to play out.

Yes.

The issue however is that even if the contract is below the "floor" outlined in the agreement; other conferences' projected TV packages aren't large enough to make a difference. From an overall "benefit" standpoint, it's not black and white, but full of gray areas to determine the best and/or most appropriate conference home....which is why detractors and supporters of the BE can each gin numbers at will to make their case seem compelling.

That's the most objective view I can articulate. I've also got a biased view that I'll not express in this thread.

RE: Announcer during CUSA game
Being old enough to remember when Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis, and Tulsa were all in the Missouri Valley Conference, it would be great to see those schools play each other again especially in basketball.

Since ESPN and football seem to be driving these conference realignments, the NCAA has lost any sort of authority in this matter and has abdicated its role to ESPN. The travel costs and impact on the student athletes traveling coast to coast doesn't seem to matter. Some food for thought on impact of travel / energy costs is in this book - $20 Per Gallon

Boise State has a clause where if certain condition aren't meet with the TV contract they can leave for $2.5M instead of $5M. The Big East has a clause where they don't have to take SDSU without Boise State.

I think it's going to to come down to "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and if it works for the given school it will work and if it doesn't it doesn't.

That's exactly right. I was just trying to lay out an answer to the question along with an as objective as possible view of factors that complicate the process. Objectivity gets seriously lost in most of these discussions as numbers get wildly over/under stated when emotions get involved.

RE: Announcer during CUSA game
Ive got a feeling the mtn west is going to look really solid in the next three years.

Boise and sdsu will be back.

It's a much more stable place for our Olympics sports and other than having a bad tv contract for the next couple of years we have just as hod a chance to get in a CBS bowl. Plus we would open up some Ooc spots for cusa/NBe teams.

It all hinges on Fresno for me. No Fresno no mwc.

Maybe the ESPN announcers know something most Tulsa fans don't. Maybe not. Who knows?

As screwed up as the Tulsa Administration has been lately, would be surprised if they have a clue.

I seriously doubt that Boise and SDSU are going back... but I've been surprised before. I can promise you that Houston and SMU are going nowhere unless the BE basketball schools bail.
