editted to reflect my reading comprehension error...Now I get it, this would be the 2nd team we've played twice this season (UCF & Iowa State)....very good question !

in either the 60's or 70's USMand Memphis state played home and home inthe same season.

Plus, Tulsa plays Iowa State in Tulsa next September. Hopefully, that will be the rubber game of the series!

It will be interesting to see what Iowa State fans think of this.

In 1978, Oklahoma and Nebraska played each other in the Orange Bowl just a few weeks after playing in the season. IIRC, Nebraska won the regular season game and Oklahoma won the bowl.

Go daddy wouldn't release Ark st to liberty. Go daddy was pissed at sun belt conference for allowing New Orleans bowl to take ULL without a discussion!

I bet the Liberty Bowl is dejected, having to take a Big 12 team instead of a Sunbelt team. I'm sure they will sign up the Sunbelt champ for an automatic bid to their bowl as soon as possible. Arkansas St. fans may be as delusional as Arkansas fans.

I think the rematch is a good thing for us. Lots of positives.


Neutral field - even pro TU crowd.

Motivation factor for us as a revenge game.

Somewhat familiar with the stadium, city and surroundings.

We're better than we were then and have some momentum.

We are fairly injury free. (except Deshane and Burnham)

Cody has more experience with our offense.

Its closer to Tulsa and a good way to bid Memphis fairwell - if we beat a B12 opponent.

We still have a game next year - here.

Liberty was taking Ark st. That's a fact. Godaddy bowl threw a fit bc they didn't want MTSU or WKU.

Glad you guys didn't get a MAC team. Good luck with the Cyclones, I think you guys win the rematch.

Wouldn't Tulsa fans have preferred Louisiana Tech or Arkansas State over a rematch with a 6-6 Iowa State?

Yea, no way on the first to play a team twice.
Hell, Bama and LSU did it last year.
A quick search showed Tenn and LSU played twice in 2001.

Now, two teams twice in one season, yea, I think you're right there. I doubt anyone has done that!

Without having to go to their home field.

I like Tulsa's chances in a neutral field.

I wanted Arkansas state.

Those both had some good qualities but another shot at a BCS team is sweet! We have got to start beating these mid to lower BCS teams to get any respect so I'm happy for the rematch!

I think that it was 1964 and USM won both games. Both of us had trouble filling our schedule and we played a home and home in the same season. Since neither of us were in a conference at the time, I'm not sure that fulfills his question or not.

Im hearing if OU gets the BCS game then ISU will fill the other big 12 option and la tech gets the liberty bowl.
