On the MAC board a poster said that the NIU QB Lynch threw an orange at the TV while Herbstreit was doing his "hating" on NIU.

And in what might be an unpopular opinion around here, I agree. Oklahoma got jobbed. Clemson and Georgia a little, too. But they wanted this system and they also wanted to keep the media, certain college presidents and congress off their backs. Should they really be surprised at this?

If Oklahoma, Georgia and Clemson fans want to cry about it, that's fine. But if they get in the championship game with a loss next year, and an undefeated non-AQ, or hell, even an undefeated Big East team gets left out and they're angry about it, don't mock the little guys for crying about what you cried about the year before.

Oklahoma has a gripe but it is not with NIU but with Louisville in truth.

I loved the part where he says that the new system will stop this "insanity" forgetting that in the new system NIU would go anyway because NIU and the MAC had the highest ranked Gof5 team this year.

Idiot.

If this was th enew system I believe Oklahoma would be in and Louisville would be out.

Exactly! Another great point. But by then everybody will be focused on a 4-team playoff and that will probably get less attention.

actually- believe it or not, but Oklahoma would not be in at all...
SEC- 5 teams- Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M
ACC- 1 team- Florida St
Big 10- 1 team- Wisconsin
Big 12- 1 team- Kansas St
Pac 12- 2 teams- Stanford, Oregon
MAC- 1 team- Northern Illinois
Indy- 1 team- Notre Dame

Oklahoma was #11. The lowest SEC team in was Texas A&M at #9.

So out would be Louisville, and in would be Georgia, LSU, and Texas A&M

I don't think they're similar at all. NIU qualified per objective guidelines. VCU did not appear to have a better resume than teams they were included over. I'm not saying VCU wasn't a good team, just that they deserved their invite much less than NIU deserves this one. Jmo.

But just 03-lmfao at the kicking our ass part.

EDIT: Interesting that we actually faced VCU that year in the Sweet Sixteen.

So riddle me this Batman.... how the f* did USM nor Houston have the "RPI" to get in last year considering their records yet a MAC team can do it this year?

If so even funnier. Still the main point stands with NIU going to a BCS bowl.

Houston doesn't matter, as they weren't conference champs...

As far as USM, 1st off, TCU was ahead of them, so it wouldn't have mattered. Also, I think the 10-20 group was a LOT stronger last year than it was this year. like 3 loss Georgia and Michigan State teams that were WAY better than Nebraska and UCLA this year....

RE: I think Kirk is crying
NIU got in because ESPN needs a story. The nation only cares about two things during bowl season...the national championship and the Heisman. When Utah and Boise State kicked in the door, ESPN said, "Hey, America loves these little guys in the big game." That's why since then, we've been allowed a seat at their exclusive BCS table. I'm not saying NIU isn't BCS worthy because they are damn worthy of it and deserve it. ESPN just figured out that they get more money exploiting the "little guy angle". Why else would you watch a BCS game with Louisville, Rutgers, or Pittsburgh in it?

Again, this is why I will never enjoy the BCS system (although i AM rooting for NIU big time.). Because the "little guys" have to compete with at least 4 other conferences to get one slot (so basically, you gotta compete with 66 other teams, or whatever number it is, while the Big-5 only have to compete against 9 to 13 teams) while the Big-boys only have to compete with their own conference.

Quote:Also, I think the 10-20 group was a LOT stronger last year than it was this year

Very true.. This year it was extremely weak in comparison to last year.

All the "hang wringing" by Herbsreit over Oklahoma getting screwed is total BS..first, they don't need the money, and second, they ended up with a great bowl match-up in the New Year's Day Cotton Bowl. Big whoop over nothing for those BCS guys and all the money they already have.

This was similar not only to outrage over VCU and UAB last year but also to CBS and ESPN's outrage over the Missouri Valley almost getting six teams in (and four when it was all said and done) as well as the bid to some unworthy school called George Mason in 2006. Hilarity ensued when two Valley teams, both at-larges, advanced to the Sweet 16 with collectively four wins and as for George Mason, even without their starting PG for the first game...well, you know.

Honestly, I stopped watching espn when the MLB network started broadcasting. If espn was to stoop low enough to broadcast a southern miss game, that would be about the only time you would catch my tv tuned in to those bastards.

Exactly. Not like they don't go to a BCS bowl game 3 out of their 4 years already, anyway.

I feel the same way, as I avoid ESPN at all costs. However, next Saturday at 12 pm EST, ODU will be on ESPN (not 2, u, or 3, or the ocho) in our playoff game against Georgia Southern. Make sure you tune in 03-wink
