Big hockey
Is anyone excited about Big 10 hockey? I for one am not the gophers lose 2 many rivals and most gopher fans would rather watch the gophers play umd or north dakota or even minnesota state rather then michigan or penn state..

University of Minnesota Duluth

In the east, lacrosse seems to be the growing secondary sport. In the west of the conference, hockey's far and away the biggest.

Agreed on geographical alignment of lax and hockey.

Is the University of Minnesota Duluth a big school? Is the name UMD more or less already taken in the Midwest?

I say UMd belongs to Maryland and UM-D to Minnesota Duluth, for board confusion purposes.

They can have the hyphen.

RE: Big hockey
I'd love for Rutgers to add hockey. But there's some sports we cut a few years back that will need to go back in first: Fencing and Crew. The hockey realignment thanks to Big Ten Hockey starting up has been incredibly far reaching. I feel like very few schools will still be playing in the same league they were a few years ago.

RE: Big hockey
bigsteve, Minnesota and Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota and UND are very big hockey rivals. I can understand that as someone who very casually follows college hockey.

Not in the Midwest in general. I had to look it up, but I'm not a big hockey fan.

In Minnesota, I'm sure that's what people would think about in the same way people in Ohio think of OU meaning Ohio University (and until the past few years, you never heard anyone call it just Ohio).
