Cato played great against Rice - I was very impressed with him. To think that Garrett Gilbert and Piland of UH were the preseason all-CUSA QB's 03-lmfao

Cato deserves it considering what he was asked to do and being a true sophmore. He improved greatly this fall and will only get better. If our defense would have been even middle school esque, we would have won 8 games or so.

I was impressed by Carden of ECU and the Rice QB, both are very good.

IF, MU can get the defense turned around, we may be able to sneek up on some teams next fall. The fact that we play ECU, UAB and USM at home will help greatly.

Should be fun!

I guess I just don't underatand the reasoning behind 'it should go to a bowl bound player'. Cato was certainly the most valuable player on Marshall's team. I think it's also hard to pass over a player that is at or near the top of FBS in QB stats.

It's nice to see Coop get some recognition as well. I was surprised that Carden didn't get the 2nd team all CUSA nod, considering his stats were compiled in 10.5 games rather than 12. Oh well.

Congratulations to Cato and MU. Herd fans, Was his injury at ECU anything significant?

The C-USA Awards lost most of their credibility when the nation's 2nd leading tackler was relegated to the 2nd team All-Conference.

Must not have been. We haven't heard a word since then.

Unless he started playing DB, he did everything he could.

Without Cato Marshall was a 2 win team. He was the best QB in the conference, no doubt. Just behind UCF's.

That said, I hating that a non-bowling team has the conference MVP.
Doesn't really make sense.

Cato deserved it based on what I saw in the ECU game. Pretty good chance Marshall is bowling right now if he didn't go out with the injury.

If ECUs DB doesn't jump at his highest point and intercept Blake Frohnapfel's pass, Tommy Shuler scores. There is no one behind him. It was a great pass by Frohnapfel, was just a better jump and INT by ECU.

With our defense, if we hadn't had Cato we wouldn't have won a game. So you can look at it that way. 03-wink

Without your your defense, Cato's numbers would have been lower due to less field time.

How do you see that. If our D- was better, we would have got off the field a lot sooner. Most of the scoring drives on us were 10 plays or longer. If we could get off the field in 3-7 plays with no score then Cato and the O- have more time at least 2 maybe 3 more posissions per game. If our D- gets straightened out I think Cato can get 5,000-5,200 yards next season.

If? If nothing goes wrong, he _should_ be challenging for a few NCAA records by the time it's said and done...

And a white boy to boot. 03-lmfao But yeah that was definitely a touchdown saving INT. Froahnapfel (QB edition) played very well. I just think Cato being in there would have given you guys more of a chance of winning. Not because I can point to anything Frohnapfel did wrong, just because Cato was looking unstoppable. When he tried to come back in and threw that 3rd down incompletion in the redzone to start the 4th quarter that gave us a chance. If he never went out (or possibly if he didn't try to come back in) Marshall probably continues cruising at that point. Hard to say but it was a tight game and losing your best player can't help.

Agree 100%........football is a team game and Cato led his team to a 5-7 losing record and NO bowl game.......did we miss something here or what......thank goodness we are getting out of cusa:)

Indeed it is. They should give an award to most valuable team so it can go to a bowl bound team. Just do away with the player award altogether...

I think much of what people are complaining about is what is wrong with individual awards. The purpose of the award is to go to the best player in C-USA and it did. You could argue otherwise for a few people but it's not like it was an outrageous pick.

Marshall's offense was impressive this year, there is no other way to describe it. Cato was a big reason why. Marshall's defense was pretty bad and they lost games. How does Cato have anything at all to do with the defense?

There are awards for being a good player on a good team, it's called a bowl game. If there was a player that was obviously better than Cato on a good team he should win. I can't think of such a player. The linebacker for UAB was pretty impressive but he probably got snubbed from more recognition BECAUSE he was on a team with a bad record. Individual awards are just that, individual. Tulsa was the best team in C-USA and they won the award for the best team, the Conference Championship.
