LaTech: Dykes to Berkley(Cal)
Cal: The San Francisco Chronicle reports Sonny Dykes will be named head coach at Cal. Sources tell me LA Tech has called a team meeting for 9 p.m. CT tonight to tell the players. Here was our initial list of potential candidates when Jeff Tedford was fired. Take a look at that first name.

Helps us some if he leaves now so we have time to hire a new coach during recruiting season.

Berkeley is northern California.
Still sunnier than most other places, though.

I'm not sure about that NG. Between the fog and the cold weather, it's really not that sunny in Berkeley. San Jose yes - but not Berkeley. I wonder how his accent will fly in the Bay Area?

First line of his speech to the team:
"Well, look on the bright side. At least I got to coach you guys in your last game of the season!"

Kliff Kingsbury, Neal Brown, and Todd Monken already being floated around as the candidates to replace Dykes. Our AD really cause the fit to hit the shan with this whole bowl fiasco.

I wonder how much $ Davison is willing to spend this time around? Hopefully close to 1 million. Since our stupid AD couldn't get into a bowl I think Dykes buyout drops to 500k down from 800k.
FYI on Davison after Katrina when the Saints were looking at leaving New Orleans Bradshaw put together a group of backers to purchase the team and keep them in New Orleans - Davison was going to put up the remaining cash - somehwere 300-500 million range.

This may not be a bad thing for Tech now that we are willing to spend the money for a coach and keep placing coaches at better jobs. There is a lot of interest in the job even with our lousy AD.

I may get killed for this but I, for one, am glad this is over. I'm not taking anything away from the job that Sonny has done with the team over the last 3 years, it's been great.
Winston, I know you don't like Bruce right now over the bowl situation, and I've waited until Sonny made his announcement to say this next part. Anyone who tells me that Sonny Dykes didn't have the final say over what we were doing with the bowl people is lying to me and to themselves. After it all went down and we started catching hell, what did Sonny do? Fly coast to coast interviewing for jobs and not defending Bruce or Tech. He let Bruce (and to a large extent) us take all the heat while he got the heck out of dodge. So, imo, thanks.....but don't let the door hit ya.

I've been wanting Sonny to leave myself. I appreciate what he has done but he's obviously ready to move up...and I want to continue our progression. I think it was going to be hard to get recruits to come with the head coach flying around the country going to every job fair he can find. Not to mention coaches from other schools have been telling them all year "don't go there, their coach is going to leave."

Having our last 2 coaches get big AQ jobs should really help us get a new coach. All the high school talent we need is within a couple of hours, stadium improvements scheduled, now averaging 25k in attendance and pay close to 1 million we should be fine.
