UT-UCLA thread on big east board
http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=606476

My oh my, some people have a warped sense of reality. This is December in a football crazy state where BBall doesn't cross our radar until after the Super Bowl is played.

I would do it but I know it's a lost cause but some one needs to educate BE members on TV ratings in the city of Houston.05-mafia03-banghead

I would post the ratings again but why bother. Certain fans will see what they want to see to make themselves feel better about their place in college athletics.

All that established, why exactly schedule a big non-conference matchup in a dome when it's predictable that no one shows up? Either have it on campus, or figure out how to have it in February.

And we do have a point (I assume, I haven't read that thread--it's not about my white-hot rage at my shortsighted leadership) about the long-term prospects of the new Big East schools in college basketball, when they are located firmly in college football country.

I thought Football season was over until the 15th? Texas isn't playing a bowl game until when? All they could drum up was 2799 in Houston? I guess Texas was too busy stressing about Johnny Football Heisman.

Serious question here.

Since I don't know where/how you get this info (yes I trust what you post is legit not going there) would it be possible to get the ratings for the highest rated program on those channels for the year and or same time frame?

That would be a more accurate comparison to the point that some people are trying to make (about the limited exposure) on certain networks. Just making up an example but let’s say UH drew a .8 and the highest program of the year and or time frame is 1.0. It shows how crappy the carriage is versus saying one or more schools just suck and can't draw flies.

Just a thought.

For a BBall game in Dec in football crazy Texas. In case you hadn't notice, Texas still has HS football playoff games. Some people will grasp at straws. Oh well

So then why schedule it for that date? That is embarrassing no matter how one tries to frame it.

TV ratings come from the Houston Chronicle and they have been posted numerous times.

I'm not a Texas fan and I have no idea why they did it but I find it laughable. It's grasping at straws. Like I told Cal, if you care about BBall in Nov & Dec, move to the NE or Midwest where they actually care about that sport.

I know that much but it would be interesting to see a complete breakdown of each networks programming. Not just what the chronicle reports.

Like say (well when it was still on Fox....) the Dan Patrick show drew X, UT v whomever Y, etc. etc.

That would bet a better representation of the point those people are trying to make.

I'm at work, have a final tomorrow and a interview on Thursday afternoon. I'll try to look at Thursday when I get home. I think I know what you are asking for. IIRC, with the exception of A&M, ratings are down across the board but I'll break it down by year and channel.

It appears you are. You use attendance and TV ratings as a barometer for popularity on one hand but throw it out when it doesn't favor your PoV. Even if basketball isn't very popular around here (and it obviously isn't), that's inexcusable attendance for a school that supposedly owns the Houston market.

It's freaking BBall in the state of Texas in Dec. You coog fans keep changing the goalposts to fit your agenda. 1st attendance does not accurately reflect the support that UH gets in Houston( 27K in the stands means so many more are at home watching on TV right?).

OK, so they move onto this article (which by the way is completely inaccurate. It appears it was written by the UH President who is pretty good at not telling the whole truth) http://www.forbes.com/sites/sportsmoney/...f-houston/. Coog fans run from web site to web site posting how valuable they are and how the UH-USM, Tech-UH games are the norm in Houston and brag about how they beat Baylor and mighty Texas Longhorns 1 time in TV ratings. So I post accurate numbers from the Houston Chronicle and the freaking whining starts again. Well we don't get to play on a major network in prime time and once we get our big new shiny BE TV deal, we will compete with UT and A&M. You mean the same BE schools that UH fans wouldn't show up for or watch in CUSA? Now, they want us to believe that because they have a new conference playing the same old schools from the past will automatically help them with attendance and TV ratings. Give me a break. People aren't stupid.

If the Big 12, SEC, Big 10 or PAC 12 thought the schools residing in Houston were worthy, 1 of those conferences would have already invited them. I think the TV execs and Conference commissioners are seeing the same thing that I see in the Houston Chronicle

But hey lets all sing kumbaya and laugh at UT to make our selves feel better because they only brought 3K fans to a December BBall game in the state of Texas.

And yet jml, none of that has anything to do with the fact Texas couldn't draw flies to that game. I'd say we'd be reading too much into had it drawn 10,000 people because basketball isn't that popular, especially during football season but it couldn't even draw that.

And not once have I argued in favor of UH in regards to this event, though I will say UH certainly couldn't have done any worse than that.

Nice crowd at the Hoff for Texas vs Houston. Coogs up 17-11 on Texas in the CBI tourney.

College Basketball in Texas is at an all time low right now with not one of the 20 something D1 teams in the state making the tournament.
