Rice bowl ticket sales update
The Rice athletic department reports that they're closing in on 4000 tickets sold for the Armed Forces Bowl game against Air Force. That's with two weeks to go - hopefully the number will keep going up but that's a decent start. By comparison, Minnesota and Michigan State have sold only 2000 tickets each for their respective bowls. And even Florida has sold just 6500 for the Sugar Bowl.

I might show up for that DFW area bowl game myself to support Rice and the MOB. First college football game I ever saw was in Rice Stadium back in the day.

Great job. ECU will be lucky to sell that many to our bowl game. Bad timing and long distance. If it was after Christmas it would be much better, but not much we can do about that.

Congrats to Rice. Not sure what Tulsa's bowl sales look like, but I wish we had your bowl day/time. Tulsa plays on Monday, December 31st @ 2:30 P.M. & in my job, the last day of the year is one of our busiest, so I will be unable to go to Memphis. I have a couple friends in the same boat. Our families total 14 season tickets who can't make the trip for "dad's" job responsibilities. Really prefer weekend bowl games if at all possible.

RE: Rice bowl ticket sales update
North Texas took about 17,000 fans to the 2'nd NO's Bowl game (on a Tuesday night to boot) which was a Mean Green win over the U of Cincinatti Bearcats. For those who drove it from DFW, they had about an 8 hour drive.

Good ticket sales, Rice Owls! Rice U had a a very sizeable group of fans who came to Denton in our last football season at venerable Fouts Field--many Rice alums from the DFW area, too. (I think yall will like Apogee Stadium much more--we sure as hell do.

If u cant attend your bowl, why not buy tickets and donate them for your band so yourath dept does not have to pay for those. Or buy them and have them given to alocal charity.

Thats solid.

Is the game @ Ford or is it in Ft Worth this year.

That game should always be @ SMU.

How in the heck can an Orange Bowl ticket be $2?

Years ago, when I lived in Phoenix, there was a Chinese carry-out spot called the Rice Bowl a couple of blocks from my house. I always ordered the Kung Pao chicken because I was young and my taste in asian cuisine was limited...

I've got my tickets and hotel reservations for the New Year's weekend in Memphis for the Liberty Bowl. Gonna be a lot of fun!

Just curious based on some of the above comments.

The listed public price for LB tickets is $55 and $70 and saw that Stubhub had tickets from $30 to prices through the roof.

I know that sometimes participating universities sell those tickets at a discount. What price did Tulsa sell their allotment of tickets for?

Mine cost $55. The university also had student tickets available for what I believe was a discounted rate. They also had a program for boosters to purchase tickets for students...probably at a discounted rate.

Thank you.

That is indeed the face value of "non-box seat" tickets and the price paid by locals.

Game is at ACS ... I think that's the permanent home (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

We brought about 10,000 to the NO Bowl in '06 - but it was more of a milestone event since it was our first bowl game since the Paleozoic Era.

I'm guessing that we'll end in the 5-8k range this year when all is said is done. We have a more of a national alumni base, so we tend to get a bit of a disconnect between bowl attendance (a travel-worthy event) and an October Saturday home game.
