That's an interesting thought. I don't get the sense that either on is out chasing a head coach job. You've got to give a man who wins two bowl games at Tulane some credit , though.

Why not James Coley?

I think Coley would be good if FIU can get him.

San Jose State doesn't have a coach either.

Agreed. Bottom line is that they are both great coaches. I just happen to have known Frank for a little while and he's a very good coach.

SJSU and now you can add USU of course. FIU isn't alone.

Supposedly a scandal involving Cristobal got him fired. Still waiting for the details to come out

The rumor is that he got some recruits into a strip club. I'm not sure if the issue is the naked women, the payment arrangements, the presence of (gasp! ) alcohol, the kids' age, or something else. Every source I've read seemed to be content to just skip from "strip club" to "horrible scandal" without any additional analysis. Personally, I think this is just an example of how puritanical our country is. Then again, it was basically founded by Puritans, and angry, genocidal ones at that, so the fact that no one is allowed to have any fun here shouldn't come as a huge surprise.

Wow. People saying it was a mistake by FIU to fire two coaches that were doing awful. I feel like some people don't believe in bettering yourself and getting rid of dead weight. I knew Tulane, UAB, and UTEP were like this, but why should FIU have to settle just because the guy has a "name." Hats off to FIU for wanting to be better than 3-9!

And Andre. Bringing 17-18 year old recruits to a strip club can get you in some serious trouble. The parents probably don't approve and it makes the University look bad.

RE: FIU is the last team to find a new Head Coach
I think one of the reasons MC was fired is PG thought he could just get his good friend Butch Davis to come in. When that didn't happen I don't think he had a back up plan and FIU is still sitting without a coach becuse of it.

One colony was founded by Puritans, the rest were not. Cristobal's record was 27-47 over 6 full seasons including 3-9 last year. OK he had 2 winning seasons (15-11 over those seasons) That is not a record that screams progress. Maybe an obvious lack of judgement was the final, but not only, straw.

Considering MC took over an 0-12 team, riddled with sancations it is an amazing job that he got them to a bowl game in 4 seasons. And he actaully coached FIU to a bowl win over a decent 8-4 Toledo team. FIU was favored by 3 over Marshall in the bowl game last year and most thought they would beat us.
Like I said I think PG thought he had his coach in his pocket and when that didn't happen he didn't have a back up plan.
