Rocko, it's apparent Aresco is having trouble convincing enough presidents of the viability of an all-sports western division in order to get Fresno and UNLV to commit. Will that happen? Tough to say but you have to think UC and UConn are opposed and I frankly can't blame them. Why put out more in travel money to help the long-term health of a conference you have no intention of remaining in for any longer than absolutely necessary?

Exactly, that's 50% of the voting members. So, Aresco CANNOT offer all sports memberships until after July 1st 2013. Will have members coming and going in '13, '14, and '15. A scheduling nightmare but could be nice 16 team conference in future if things work as planned.

assuming a 70-30 split. 8 mil all sports, and 5 mil football only.

If they decided to sweeten the FB pot an 80-20 split would be

7.7 mil all sports and 5.7 mil fb only.

If aresco can hold Boise off long enough to present those types of #s the BE wins.

At this point most of us would take that money. Cincy, UConn, and USF are also getting the exit fee cash too.

Boise State would be foolish to sign up for a conference gave them less money and exposure. Heck next year alone when they play Cincinnati, Louisville, Rutgers, Houston, and SMU is better than anything the Mountain West would give them. Even when Rutgers and Louisville leave the league the conference still has solid schools in California, Texas, Florida, and out east which could help spotlight a program.

Earlier this month long before the Catholic 7 left the conference, I posted that Aresco likely would not finalize a Big East TV deal until late February or mid-March. . . . I personally will not panic until we get to April without a TV deal . . . and, it won't be until that TV deal is almost done before the Big East makes any more offers to future members . . .

Yea, when you work your way through the internet static it becomes more reasonable.

The mwc is not horrible but the NBE will be better innfootball, and that is Boise's signature sport. Additionally, they're gonna make more money in the NBE. They won't get rich but they'll do better.

Then you add on the recruiting in cities like DFW, Hou, Orlando, Tampa, Philly, Cincy, Memphis

versus the current MWC.

Hell, just the additional sales of merchndise in the major metro areas will be a factor.

Aresco said that deep, serious TV talks would take place this week.

They have to, because without TV numbers no desirable future members will join.

I'd love to have VCU and Mason in the league for basketball. Considering the A-10 is being raided, now would be a good time for them to make more moves.

So you want to add non football playing members? The stupidity on this board knows no bounds.

Even when Rutgers and Louisville leave the league the conference still has solid schools in California, Texas, Florida, and out east which could help spotlight a program.

Two things---

1) The thing we are skipping over is this phrase

If Aresco can get Boise to stay, he will have a 12-team, two division football conference locked up. He can then settle the television deal which will have all sorts of escape and “look in”" clauses to it. It will be a combination ESPN-NBC/Comcast deal in football and basketball which could be closer to $100 million per year than $60 million per year as has been speculated.

Those extra clauses could devalue the contract significantly if we lose certatin teams. So a nice 7-8 million dollar contract may not be guaranteed. These clauses and riders are probably what is slowing contract progress wth our swinging door membership.

2) We need to get a contract on the table quick. March or April may simply be too late. These go/no-go decisions need to be made earlier than that. We need to have something in hand far sooner than Spring or the battle to hang on to the western teams may be over.
