If the idiot schools that whored out to jump to the BE had stayed, can you imagine what CUSA would be now. I won't miss them and look forward to the new teams. As long as USM football goes back to winning big, it will make no difference. We just have to take care of ourselves and win. The rest will work out fine then.
the nBE is c-usa. the defectors left c-usa for c-usa, and in so doing, destroyed c-usa. the whole thing has been a massively destructive and needless exercise in clinically irrational behavior.
I wouldn't go so far as to say they destroyed c-usa at all. I think trading Tulane for La. Tech is a gain, trading Memphis for MTSU is a gain, and we pick up some schools that have the potential to generate money in the future, so I actually feel the conference might have added strength for the future.

OK here comes my some what jaded point of view, but there are those schools who will have the money, big tv markets, and the political power structures to see who becomes members of the elite (if they decide to allow anyone). C-USA, the what is yet to be known conference formerly known as the Big East, MWC, SBC, and the others, will be kept around to fill the schedule of the big guys when they need a win they should get, and if one gets too big then they will see to it that school gets knocked down some to keep them from becoming one of them. In some cases maybe they will let them join if it is in the interest of the rest of the elites. Schools like USM will always be no better than just about to crack the barrier but not allowed to. I remember back in the 70s I thought USM was going to make it, but then it fell back. In the 80s I thought we would but we got put on probation after OU forced Dupree to go there, and when he left they stopped him from playing a game at USM. I am sure others will remember such happening at their school, Now what can happen and often does, is that some school steps up and gets on the same level and then they get the same treatment with a few exceptions. So I see the mid majors closing the gap with each other and maybe a few will sneak in like Boise State getting into the big boys club. Meanwhile the mid majors will put out some good teams but fade at least some, and so on. Yeah I know I am jaded but it happens when you have seen it over and over again.
