CUSA--New Conference, What would you do...
If things go down the way most think Boise and SDSU will be going back to the MWC. And the MWC will most likely at least take SMU and Houston with them. We know Cincy and UConn are gone the 1st chance they get. This means there will be 6 schools either homeless and looking for a few schools to form a new conference.

If you had to make the decision on to stay in CUSA or maybe go make a new conference with Temple, Tulane, ECU, UCF, USF and Memphis. What would you do?

I think I would stay right where we are. Out of those 6 schools only one school gets me excited and that is ECU, but that alone isn't worth jumping into something. We will have the same access in football and basketball as those schools. In football I think CUSA did an upgrade somewhat. LA Tech is much stronger than Memphis and Tulane and probably equal to ECU. In basketball we will def take a hit with Memphis but I think most years ODU and Charlotte will compete well.

I'm surprised no one's taken a run that I'm aware of at Tulsa, they have a very successful athletic program in all sports, and the facilities to go with them. The Big XII should be blowing Tulsa's new AD's phone up trying to get them in. I hope that all the new additions to Conference USA will stay with us for at least 2 or 3 years, and if a bigger conference comes calling, by all means, seize the brass ring.

UAB is the victim of bureaucratic and political BS keeping them from expanding their horizons in athletic endeavors (see UA board of trustees)...Marshall, I would think , is not "shackled" by such hindrances and would be a strong addition to a so-called larger conference. But, I'm glad you're in Conference USA until that call comes your way.

RE: CUSA--New Conference, What would you do...
Personally, I would stay with C-USA. Here's why:

1. From exit fees, tv money forfeited by exiting partners, and new entrants' fees, it looks like Marshall stands to gain a financial windfall of about $7 million, if I understand this complicated issue. We should not pass that up.
2. The new C-USA has a fan friendly, regionally based divisional structure that should be a tremendous lot of fun. ODU, Middle Tenn, Charlotte, UAB should be great opponents in the long term.
3. Annual trips to Florida to play FIU and FAU. I was at the BoB Bowl against FIU, and their traveling fans were great. Plus, this part of Florida produces MANY great mid - major prospects.
4. Let's face facts...we have not earned our way to dominance since we left the MAC. C-USA, ad it's construction for the future seems ideal for us to earn our way to dominance.
5. Cross divisional opponents present some real potential in exciting games every year...likely one at home and one away. I love playing USM, Tulsa, UTEP and Rice, and new opponents in La. Tech and the Texas schools appear great.
6. Personally, I would add WKU (East)and either Arkansas State or NMSU (West) to go to 16; got to a 9 game Conference schedule (7+2); and eliminate FCS games to help SOS. Playing one more C-USA game would be far more satisfying than playing Western Carolina ( last year) or Gardner-Webb (2013).

For me, all this seems pretty good.

I would prefer we stay in CUSA. I am excited to get ODU, MTSU and Charlotte. I think UAB will improve. Playing in FL every year will be good. The west looks good, would hate to lose UTEP, Tulsa or Rice but if we do we could stay at 12 or add a couple. Louisiana, Ark State, WKU and Texas ST would be available. I believe CUSA actually offers more stability right now. GO HERD!!!

When I was younger I used to dream about Marshall playing in the BE. Of course that was when they had Miami, VA Tech, BC, and others.

But now I just turned 41 and have come to terms where Marshall will be in the scheme of college athletics and Im fine with that. I know Marshall will never be in the ACC, SEC, B10 and def not the B12 with the Who there.

Some sort of variation of CUSA is most likely where Marshall will be for years to come, and Im totally fine with that. I like most of the new adds and hope the others will grow into a good conference fit.

Marshall may not have the big obsticale of having to go though big brothers BOT. But if things have to go through the state its hard to get anything through cause its littered with WHO grads. Im suprised they allowed our new physical theorpy degree, it's the only one in the state of WV.

When the CAM was built in 1980, it was built because Marshall had enough friends in the state house at the time to block Mountian 'Err Field. After they granted the CAM the state then funneled 3.5 million away from it and the 1st architecture firm walked off of the job. The CAM was suppose to be 12,500 seats and about 2 times bigger than what it is right now. Same size as the Charleston Civic Center. That 3.5 million dollars was funneled to Err Field.
