Memphis will not gain entry into the BE.This decision was made in 2003.Yes this is a regionalized decision, the BE is a northern midwestern conference ,not a southeastern conference.Tampa and USF were a replacement for Miami in terms of a Florida location(clearly superior for the BE).The best bb conference is not about to sacrifice itself for memphis in 2010.

Wrong! USF was actually a last minute replacement for BC who ran off to the ACC at the last second. The decision to add USF was made in about a week by a panicky Coach Tranghese who didn't think through all of the ramifications of this decision. He only looked at potental positives instead of unignorable negatives.

That being said, USF is an important member of the conference now who will contribute in the future. That is also why UCF will be the next member no matter how much secret Villanova fans protest. This 16 team thing can't be sustained in the long run. Everyone knows it but you. Get ready for 2010. It's coming!

I agree with you that Memphis might not ever be in the Big East. I also agree with SOME of your reasoning of why that won't happen. However, I totally disagree with the majority of your reasoning about The University of Memphis in general, the future of the Big East in general and what might be best for the football schools of the Big East.

Certainly USF was a replacement for bc.But,it was certainly taken over memphis.Yes its hard being the best in bb,but the BE can make it.Three other BCS leagues make it with 12.

Sometimes you don't make a lot of sense.

You are right about that, Sparky, but it obviously had nothing to do with tradition, academics, proximity to BE schools or basketball.

The reason for selecting USF over memphis in 2003 was that the BE thought USF was superior to memphis, not because they thought memphis was superior to USF.

33620

That's one of the main reasons why USF was chosen over Memphis.

That's the zip code for TAMPA, FLORIDA!!

Just look at how many Big East Teams have players from FLA...vs say Tennessee.

Plus, Tampa is a Top 15 TV Market....don't think Memphis is in the Top 30.

After Big East lost Miami....many schools (especially Coaches and many fans as well) pushed to invite another FLA school to replace the Canes.

Maybe if the Tigers were located in Jacksonville or West Palm Beach...maybe they would of been chosen instead of USF.

Don't worry Tigger, Nova will be just fine in this conference:

Big East
Villanova
Saint John's
Providence
Seton Hall
Georgetown
Marquette
DePaul
Holy Cross
Xavier
Dayton
Saint Bonnie

That is a very good Basketball league and one of the Top 6 leagues in the country. It still would not compare to this league:

Eastern 10
West Virginia
Syracuse
Pitt
Rutgers
UConn
Louisville
Cincinnati
USF
Notre Dame-All Sports except Football
Memphis

Still the best basketball league in the country and with the following bowl games.

1. BCS
2. Gator
3. Liberty
4. Car Care
5. TOronto Bowl
