Well, Petal did really good for 7 million. The inside of the field house is better than a good bit of what the JUCO's have in Mississippi.

Not bad for a town with about 12k people.

Is Oak Grove's stadium bigger? I was under the impression that it was one of the largest in the state but I could have been misinformed.

No one really knows what og's seats. Its been estimated at 7k. But with the hillside it could go 8. I dont think you will find one in ms larger than Meridian. Ray seats 14k
Not a lot of good pictures of the stadium. It is pretty nice.
[Image: Hattiesburg%20MS%20Oak%20Grove%20High%20...206500.jpg][Image: Oak-Grove-Home-Side-2.jpg] I think it holds between 7 and 8k. If you count the hill, it might get up to 9k.

Petal's is nicer, but of course it is newer and was built all at once using bond money. It would have to be one of the nicest in the state. Clinton's is super nice too. Their baseball stadium is probably the nicest I've seen in this state.

I just can't find one good picture of my alma maters stadium. It ain't a big stadium and it ain't fancy, but you won't find many steeped in as much tradition as Haynesville Memorial Stadium. They just renamed it after the current HCs father, who, at the last I knew, is the second winning-est coach in Louisiana High School football history. We are second only in state titles to John Curtis Christian. We also share a fun fact in that legendary Tech coach Joe Aillet coached at HHS some time before he coached at Tech. It is also, every other year, site of the longest running rivalry in Louisiana high school football, going at around 106 continuous years of each team playing. GO TORS! (short for Tornado, though that may be obvious.)

EDIT: Also we haven't failed to make playoffs since 1983. That's right if we make it this coming fall that is 30 years of playoffs.

And as far as I know y'all do it without being private or magnet and taking out of district players like most of the top programs in this state do. When I was in high school it seemed like Evangel won 1a every year and Haynesville won 2a every year. I thought it was funny when Evangel moved up and skipped 2a.

Haynesville is 1A, we had Evangel in our district when I was a sophomore and junior I want to say. Red Franklin was a hell of a coach with what he did.

Meridian is certainly the biggest HS stadium in the state.

Laurel is probably the coolest stadium, IMO.

The field was origionally grass but with the help of their now OC and former nfl qb they have turf. He also furnished the weight room.

They recently received a gift which was matched by they NFL through some type of NFL grant program. Not a huge sum of money but a nice contribution. It helps to have that OC on your sidelines from time to time even if he does like to throw it 80% of the time02-13-banana

RE: High school stadiums in your town
The most unique high school stadium in our area isnt for football. Smokey Harrington Park at Hattiesburg high was built in the 1940's and served as a training facility for the yankees for about 3 years. It has covered seating for around 2k and is 445 to center, 345 down the lines and 385 in the alleys. Has the old locker rooms still used under the stands.

Yea, Evangel was 5A until the 5A schools threw a fit and they got sent down to 1A. Best story I have ever heard was back in the mid 90's when HHS beat West Monroe and Evangel in back to back weeks, one of the Booty brothers got so mad they punched a wall and fractured/broke their hand.

I was glad they got moved down. I don't like public schools having to compete with private schools that can recruit. I remember when John David Booty skipped his senior year Evangel had to scramble for a quarterback...they tried (unsuccessfully) to bring in a quarterback from Texas. In the end they had to move their best WR to QB.

That's right. They have to live in district unless they're in the magnet program.

They have to have a mailing address in the district, doesn't mean they sleep there.

I get that. But kids move into certain districts from all over just to play football. They are often recruited by coaches and "arrangements" are made for them to establish residency in the district. It happens all the time. I know it is easier for private schools, but public schools do it too.

Good thing we don't have to worry about that here in Texas although they did just begin to open up UIL to a few private schools with major restrictions on them.
