Former University of Cincinnati baseball player Ian Happ and former Madeira High School player Andrew Benintendi were named Tuesday as first team 2015 All-Americans by Perfect Game magazine.
It is the seventh All-America honor for the season for Pittsburgh native Happ, including three first-team selections.
Former Arkansas outfielder Benintendi swept national player of the year awards, winning the Golden Spikes Award, the Dick Howser Trophy, Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year and Baseball America Player of the Year. Benintendi led the nation with 20 home runs and is the first Division I player since 2009 with at least 20 homers and 20 or more steals. He hit .376 and ranked third in the nation with a .717 slugging percentage.
Benintendi, picked No. 7 overall by Boston Red Sox in the MLB Draft earlier this month, will likely start his professional career with the Boston Single-A affiliate in Lowell, Massachusetts. He signed Tuesday, with a reported bonus of $3,590,400 (according to multiple outlets).
Outfielder Happ previously was named first team All-America by D1Baseball.com and the ABCA and second-team by Baseball America, the NCBWA, Louisville Slugger Collegiate Baseball and College Sports Madness. He also was named a First Team Capital One Academic All-American by CoSIDA.

Happ was the No. 9 overall pick in the recent draft by the Chicago Cubs, making him the highest pick in UC history. Happ is playing with the Eugene Emeralds, the Cubs' Single A Short Season club. Happ is hitting .282/.396/.564 through his first 11 games with Eugene, with three home runs and five RBI, according to baseballreference.com.
Happ was named the 2015 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and finished the season as the league leader in batting average (.369), slugging percentage (.672), on-base percentage (.492), total bases (133) and walks (46).
