Why?

Two of your key players are out for the whole season, right? Not his fault.

Any coach, in his third season, who hangs his entire season on whether or not one freshman can get eligible is probably not the right guy to be running a program. It's not like Herrion just woke up one day and realized that Pitts and Shaq Johnson had graduated, he had 3 recruiting classes to plan for it.

When Canty didn't get eligible there wasn't even a #2 PG on the roster forcing him to move Kane to PG. Now Kane does okay at point as long as the other teams PG is not really quick, but what it does is significantly lower the offensive production of Kane.

The real problem with this team is that Herrion hasn't brought in one HS kid worth a crap in 3 years. He just keeps trying to load in JUCOs and the even the ones that haven't been total flops don't have any chemistry.

We'll be very lucky to go 5-11 in conference even with Kane back.

We were GOOD with Shaq Johnson, Damier Pitts, that whole crew who played together for years. Those were all Donnie Jones recruits too. Herrion overloads the team with JUCOs and his highschool guys have been ****. He's repeating his history at CoC in getting worse every single season.

Even that half assed DJ team with ******* Hassan Whiteside on it would beat this team by 50.

No. He recruited a better team than Herrion has though.

RE: #FireHerrion
from the outside looking in, and this is mainly from watching the Herd v Ohio match ups the last few years, it looks like Herrion has put together a group of ball players, but no team. They all look like a bunch of guys with the skill set to play at a bigger program but academics, attitude, work ethic, effort, or something along those lines prevented them from reaching their potential. So now they're "stuck" on a team they think they are better than and play for themselves and are too quick to blame others if things aren't going well. It starts in pre game warm ups too, they come out and shoot around with an unfocused, very casual demeanor. Like they either have this game won without even trying, or they don't feel like competing and aren't going to try.

I understand that this might not be an accurate characterization but that's the impression they give off. I think back to the couple of recent games in Huntington where the score was real close and the Herd players would make a good shot or get in for a dunk and would be posing and posturing under the basket while Ohio was running down the court 5 on 4 for an easy answer.

And I won't even get into the guy who was playing on his phone during the game because he's already gone, but wow.

I think in general Marshall fans love to over react, and ever loss is followed with the cry for someone to be fired (which I love to watch) but in this instance I agree, Herrion has a mess on his hands and I don't think he can fix it.

With that being said, good luck to the Herd, always like seeing them do as well as long as its not against Ohio.

Many "new" coaches to a program that liked to load up on JUCO's generally is looking for shortcuts to win ASAP and then jump ship to other programs/more $$$...because most programs can't last/rely on JUCO's because just a few recruiting misses will leave a program decimated.

I am so glad to see this post. I have been saying it for two and a half years. He has no clue what he is doing, screaming and yelling at anyone and anything is all this guy knows. I don't enjoy watching this team play at all.

If the team doesn't improve in conference play, I hope y'all get rid of him. Team is severely underachieving.

I want him fired too, heck I'd be happy if they fired him today and promoted Cline to be an interim. Unfortunately, he has two years left on his contract and I don't see our admin having the balls to buy him out.

This is actually impressively accurate. I don't read every single Huntington-based article about the basketball team nor am I able to watch many of the games at all, living in the Chicago area. But anytime I've been able to watch one (the wvu, UK and Villanova games plus one other one I can't remember), what perimeterpost says here seems 100% accurate. At one point, I'm pretty sure I said verbatim to my wife "This team plays like a bunch of guys riding their individual talent alone with no interest in playing as a team".

Buyer Beware. You get rid of Herrion, god help you when it comes time for Hambone to hire someone else.

Honestly, you need to get rid of Hambone. He is poison to an athletic program.

I was sad to see when you hired him. I knew that your athletic programs would not get better until he was gone.

Here's what has been said....Marshall expects...from the outside nobody knows.

Here's what I know....wins matter...period...you pay them, you win them...if you don't then you don't get paid long term....if you know that, then what is the problem with firing him....so many people think this is 50's workplace...guess what, it is not....deal with it...is 2013 and bigger business than our grandfathers could have even comprehended....and I am almost 50.

After the past few years, I expect Marshall to compete for a top 3 spot in the conference in basketball during the regular season.

I expect us to make a serious run in the conference tournament and I expect us to improve each year.

I expect us to get to the NIT tournament AND NOT LOSE THE FIRST GAME.

In a couple years, I expect us to get to the NCAA tournament and probably lose the first game but to gradually improve and hopefully one day advance at least 1 round.

We don't have a consistently successful basketball history, so I'm fine if that last one takes another decade but DAMN we fought tooth and nail to reach the CUSA championship game last year. This team just doesn't fight for anything, it seems.

As I said on Herdnation.com

Less than a year ago he took us to our 1st NIT since 1988. Now I read contless posts calling for him to be fired. Apparently those of you have forgotten the number of seniors we lost. The number of new talent that came in. The heir to the PG position got benched a week before the season. The mass amount of injures that have plagued the team from week one to the present. The up and down play of solid returning players. It's been a trainwreck but to blame the coach for everything and even worse calling for his firing is pretty ridiculous. Let the season play out. Confernce play hasn't even started yet and some of you have lost it. There is a whole lot of basketball yet to be played.
