RE: Tulsa finishes #25 in Coaches Poll
A well deserved applause to Tulsa!

And while we are applauding Tulsa, let us not forget to applaud CUSA, a conference configuration and structure that has allowed Tulsa to enjoy its finest sports era since the heyday of the Mizzouri Valley in the 1940s.

Tulsa, a small private school of 4,167 students, the official bean count, and a high academic profile, has been to 8 bowls in the last 10 years (not sure on the exact figures) and has won 2 Liberty Bowls, one more than the other 11 CUSA schools combined since TU joined CUSA. Tulsa has also won more CUSA conference championships for all sports. I think (not sure) this is Tulsa's second Top 25 ranking since joining CUSA.

CUSA nation and its geography is where TU draws its students, where its alumni live and work, and where TU can exploit a rich recruiting area.

No doubt the tv package, football bowls, and the tight geography that, like tv, boost exposure are positives Tulsa did not always have. CUSA is providing a platform after a half-century of wandering without having a strong conference base when Mizzouri Valley football fell apart in the mid-1950s.

I have heard the complaint echoed many times from CUSA colleagues that "CUSA is holding us back." That refrain should be recognized for what it is--a failure of that respective school's management of its sports program, a self-inflicted injury. If small private Tulsa, with high academic requirements, can succeed in CUSA, why can't you? This is not intended as a putdown of past, current, or future CUSA colleagues. Rather, it is a trumpheting of the positives that CUSA offers each of its schools. It is up to each CUSA school to take advantage of the postives offered by CUSA.

Tulsa has been a proud member of CUSA. My greatest hope this wonderful CUSA conference situation continues for Tulsa, and for each and every CUSA school.

Hey, not everyone is free to run their program how they want. Look at UAB, they may be a power if Alabama wasn't over their shoulder trying to hold them down.

I never saw this coming in the preseason:

17. Utah St (11-2)
21. San Jose St (11-2)

WOW!

Applause for these two schools, probably the two most mocked schools by the pre-raided MWC.

With Boise State, MWC can now claim 3 Top 25 teams.

Happy to see San Jo do really well this year. I used to follow their program when I lived in the Bay Area. Too bad they lost their coach; same for Utah St.

Congrats to Tulsa on their season. Excellent program.

If we do leave CUSA, will the city support us with their attendance so we can grow like Boise. I would hate to lose Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana recruits.

Based on rankings, the WAC finished as the #5 conference in FBS.

That is pretty dang impressive for its last hurrah in football.
