I know some people like to bash on Banowsky and I've never really understood why. Then I read this quote in reference to departing schools really leaves me scratching my head.

In reference to current schools moving to other conferences.....

“We don't really try and deter that,” Banowsky said. “In fact, we promote it. We want the schools in our conference to be the very best they can possibly be.”

Read more: http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_n...z2HrkTkCs8

What the hell is this guy thinking? The conference commissioner "Promotes it".....are you kidding? Unbelievable quote. Obviously Thompson doesn't share those same feelings as Banowsky and I cant imagine any other conference commissioner feeling that way either. How about doing everything in your power to keep the schools you really want to make the conference better in the long run over the above quote? Makes no sense to me unless Banowsky was actually happy to see some of those schools leave.

I bet he wishes he could take that one back unless we (or the media) really didn't get the context it was said. Sometimes the media and the internet misinterpret, you know?

He also said: “It's a group with a whole lot of upside potential.” Hell, he's got 2 USA Top 10 TV markets in his conference of which both seem happy to be there and whether
some accept it or not, that does catch the eyes and ears of potential TV advertisers, but CUSA's mixture of medium and big markets looks like most others and I think looks damn good
looking at all the schools.

I think other former BCS so-called "powers" going to the Big Least are like a dog running circles chasing its tail. Anyone ever see a dog catch its tail yet?

GMG!

He's a horrible commissioner.

This is a proud league and he has seen it get clobbered in every round of realignment

I keep noticing that you are taking swipes at schools that are leaving. Shouldn't you be celebrating the fact that North Texas has just hit the big time? Because if the schools tha you are criticizing didn't actually leave; then your school would still be stuck in the stinkbelt conference.

Weatherford means well he's just not very bright.

He reminds me of one of those kids in class who was always eating the crayons

Maybe that explains his obsession with fonts and colors in his posts.

I keep noticing that schools that are leaving keep frequenting this board, too. Why is that? And most Texans still don't know which Carolina state your school is in unless you all have single-handeldy become the 51'st state. Sorry, but fact is, ECU is not considered Big Time in most populous states, especially ones in the Deep South and Southwest.

I think it's going to be funnier than hell when you Big Least'ers battle for "whose daddy (used) to be bigger and better" while schools from other Go5 conferences like CUSA and the, uh, MAC get the BCS bowl. I predict that Southern Miss will be one of the first schools to do that from our conference as they re-load, but hope that North Texas will soon follow, of course.

Perhaps the interests of one school affects the well being of the other members.
Louisville comes to mind.
The fact is, Banowsky is a very weak commissioner. Things would have been very different had Mike Slive still been commissioner.

I see nothing wrong with that comment. There is no way a program can better the conference without first becoming better itself.

The problem with that line of thinking is you don't really have to better yourself to move up. Quality takes a second seat to market size.

Ummm..., because the fans of those schools are still in the conference. The question is why are you frequenting this board, because your school is technically not in the conference yet.

I think that it is more likely that more stinkbelt schools are on their way into CUSA and more CUSA schools will find a way out.

And I've said the same thing, GoGold.

I think USM is head and shoulders above all of the ones from CUSA who left for the nBE, but the upside to that for USM is just look what NIU did as a MAC school?

Big Least'ers are going to be bashing their brains out on the grid iron as they watch schools from other Go5 conferences go "Beep! Beep!" to a BCS bowl. That is an easy prediction as you look at the make-up of the new Big Least. (Actually, many would call that poetic justice truth be known).

Ecu will be just if not more irrelevant than they were in cusa.

I see lots of 5-7 and 6-6 in their future.

He knows that nothing he says or does is going to stop teams from leaving, so rather than create bad blood, he's trying to put Conference USA in the best position he possibly can. Thompson on the other hand has pissed off a lot of people, and it's going to come back to bite the Mountain West in the ass sooner rather than later.

Well it's not just that. Thompson was smart to assume that it was very possible he could get Boise and SDSU back. Britton knows the C-USA schools won't come back under any reasonable circumstances.
