Big Ten to consider division name changes
http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...elany-says

Who wouldn't love new division names? Ideas?

Interesting he says it would be for the 2014 season when the new additions happen. Pretty obvious they are preparing for some line up changes. 2014 is a major target year. We may be using more than just two divisions by that time or we may be using pods.

Interesting story to follow.

RE: Big Ten to consider division name changes
Depends on how the divisions are set up. I'd prefer east/west with the conference divided into two 7 (8?) team leagues.

Eastern League
Maryland
Virginia?
North Carolina?
Penn State
Rutgers
Ohio State
Michigan
Mich State

Western League
Purdue
Indiana
Northwestern
Illinois
Wisconsin
Iowa
Nebraska
Minnesota

(if not 16, move Purdue to Eastern League)

Will probably be east-west. If not and since it doesn't sound like they want to use anything with geography (like lakes and plains) or individual names, I'd suggest going back to the original placeholder names, Division X and Division O.

If we move to 16 I really do not see the Big Ten going with static divisions. Interconference play across the board means too much to the traditional members. Pods will happen despite the WAC's failure with them.

I'd like to play Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Illinois every year. For cross over games, I'd like Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State.

After that my preference would be Penn State, Purdue, Indiana and then the rest.
