You missed UTEP, and SMU is too high relative to the others. Houston caught lightning in a bottle with your undefeated run in 2011 that looked like you would make a BCS bowl game. Do not mistake that for #3 in Texas when the Coogs are winning.

Any program from the non-AQ conferences would have a similar media attention in Texas if they were running the table and getting mention of the spot reserved for the best of the rest.

Everybody forgets about UTEP, I honestly forget that they're even in Texas most of the time. The city has proven that they'll support a winner. (i.e Texans, 2005 Astros, Rockets, etc.)

Whenever the Coogs are ranked or have a 2011-lik run, the city as a whole gets behind them because UH is Houston's college team.

USM and others stood against Louisville to admit ECU into the conference even though it caused USM and the ones who stood for ECU some anxiety. I think ECU proved us right and I am proud of where ECU has gone, but I must say NT has been a school USM has a history with and at times they have been impressive. Fortunately, lately they have been impressive and seem to have a serious attitude to becoming a very good program (just like that ECU we supported) and I think until they prove my faith misplaced, just like with ECU, they should get their shot.

Just dropping in to add an outside perspective.

North Texas was a very good Sun Belt member, was active in building the league, not a conference-jumper and stayed loyal until geography made it a no-brainer.

In the Sun Belt North Texas was on a bit of an island which caused them problems getting traction. No in-state rivalries.

Probably shouldn't pre-judge UNT.

North Texas was offered the opportunity to jump to the WAC more than once and stuck with the Sun Belt.

It was the chance to be with Tulsa, Rice, Tulane, UTSA that changed UNT.

They dropped the ball a few years ago not pursuing their stadium when they were on a roll and tolerated a coach that was content to league titles and not build and replaced him with a guy unsuited for the job.

UNT's admin has shot in the foot a few times but they are going to be just fine.

RE: CUSA about to expand again?!?!......
The thing that is most important to me (and I hope our administration), if do have to replace Tulsa(which I think we will), is to add schools that are competitive on the field. I don't care about market size and endowments. I understand their importance. The way the playoff is set up, with the highest ranked member of the Group of 5 getting a BCS bowl, the bottom of the league is just as important as the top of the league. CUSA will have to schedule similar to what it use to do in basketball when multiple teams got at large bids. Schedule a chance to win at least 5 games.

NM State (not competitive)
Ark St. (competitive)
W. Kent (competitive)
G. State (not competitive)

I also think adding more Sunbelt schools increases our TV contract because of the dilution of the Sunbelt's product. They don't really have any markets to steal, so take the best teams available.

Only FBS school in the state.

Delaware is FCS.

RE: CUSA about to expand again?!?!......
Of the four schools listed in the beginning of the thread, and if we are talking about two schools, I would prefer Ark State and WKU. However, I would certainly welcome NMSU. I would rather look at Texas State than Georgia S. I would really just like for everyone get situated in a conference, and then start having some fun in college sports again. I think everyone outside the Big Five should attempt to come to terms with the real world status of the GOF conferences, but if pursuing some non existent "Best of the Rest" status makes you feel better, than by all means live in whatever fantasy makes you happy. All of our schools will continue their efforts to become better. Every year, in every GOF conference, there will be success and failure, and those who did well will receive recognition from pundits and press. Those who faltered will try to fix what went wrong. How can any of us enjoy anything if we are constantly focused on the insanity of realignment, and fretting about having the right amount of status in a "most people don't really care world". All GOF schools bring something to the table. We all need to get to know our new conference mates, support our schools, enjoy the games and WIN!

I could see Marshall eventually going to the MAC and why not....they just had a BCS Bowl Buster in the Orange Bowl!

Even WKU flirted with the MAC not so long ago as I recall.

GMG!

Just be glad that Banowsky wanted a garbage program like North Texas, because Charlotte and ODU were going to be added to keep CUSA in Virginia and North Carolina. .

There is nothing of a garbage nature that ever comes from the Lone Star State, Southern Goober Boy. And just what was ECU's success in CUSA? Care to elaborate on that?

Well funny thing is that no one in the Southwest still has no idea if your school is in North or South Carolina and furthermore.........don't give a crap which state it's in. ECU is a 2'nd rate school trying to be something it will never be.

And ask our rich and famous what they think of your Southern Goober Boy remarks plus.....can ECU match this list in the link below? The answer is, uh "NO" you can't come even close. So go back to being a good widdle' Carolina ACC wannabe' school.

I think the one thing that confuses me the most about the NT fan posting these replies, is he doesn't seem to understand I am actually defending his school and yet he chooses to attack me. 01-wingedeagle I have the impression he is some young boy who just needs more ice cream seasons to figure out life.

Then it is in the ODU article. Both articles just came out today and there are multiple threads on the boards were posters are going back and forth discussing the information; so it is getting confusing to say which paper wrote what. Here is the quote:

"The Tulsa World newspaper reported that Tulsa, the defending C-USA football champion, may jump to the Big East in 2014. Newspapers in Mississippi indicate that Southern Mississippi, which won the 2011 football championship, has also been approached by the Big East.

Rice and Texas-El Paso, meanwhile, have been linked to discussions with the Mountain West.

New Mexico State and three Sun Belt schools - Western Kentucky, Arkansas State and Georgia State - have been mentioned as potential C-USA expansion candidates."

frankly I think he is just adding what he hopes for, because I don't see why USM would want to pay the fees to join a conference that really doesn't add enough to justify it. Yeah some old rivals, but we are also picking up one long time rival, with a growing rivalry with UAB, Marshall and potential rivalries with some of the new teams. I just don't see enough guarantees to make it a move worth taking, but I have noticed with some of these fans whose teams are moving, a doggedly determination to not realize their new conference isn't as impressive to the rest of us as they think.

Which Mississippi papers? It isn't any of the big ones. Besides, “approached” by the Big East is a bit vague. Did the Big East “approach” us to request some info and then let us know that they had no interest after receiving the info? Unless on-field performance becomes a deciding factor, Southern Miss is going nowhere.

WKU,Tx St, A-State, and ULL please. If NMSU joining is UTEPs's last straw, then thanks but no thanks. I don't want GSU until they get an oncampus stadium.

Kind of hard to get space for one in downtown Atlanta. The Falcons are getting a new stadium which will be great. No need for an on campus one.
