I'd agree with you with the exception of the B1G. They pretty much state in their charter documents that any new members have to be an AAU school (although as we have seen, some schools have LOST that standing after joining).

Not sure if the BE or the BigXII have anything similar to that written into their bylaws and such

The instructor for one of the classes opened the first class by asking the students about the perceptions of the education they would receive there vs. regional four year schools or other name schools. After the class mostly downgraded what they would be learning the instructor told them, "You will use the same book that is used for this class at Harvard and when you finish you will have learned the same things the class at Harvard has learned. I know Harvard uses this book because I wrote this book."

He had retired to the area and wanted to teach part-time and no longer wanted to do research.

While I think there are certainly benefits to name institutions with great reputations, I suspect the differences in education aren't as vast as those institutions want us to believe, especially those institutions that have embraced massive class sizes.

I took a history class at UAB that was also being taught at the private school close by. Same books same tests same professor. As the proff put same class half the price

Tulsa's athletic budget is supposedly about 32 million which would put us in the top six.

ODU's only problem is that of the $32 million budget, $23 million comes from student fees. ODU only generates $9 million in income on its own in any form. That's a ton of money to be carried on student's backs and I'm not sure how long that's sustainable.

Newbie to, oh, ummm, everything? Rice can basically chuckle at any and all nbe, mwc and C-USA team regarding endowment and academics.

While I'm not an Owl, one of my favorite t-shirts EVER is one from Rice --- "Harvard; the Rice of the Northeast".

BTW - "people" who actually have something to be arrogant about usually AREN'T (except (most) sec football teams - they have the chops AND the arrogance).

That's ok ... as a fan I just have to think back to our last game with the kittens and I feel just fine.

It must really hurt to have an undefeated team get run over by a directional school.....at least it explains the bitterness.

I chuckle when people forget that these are UNIVERSITY funded teams that also TEACH STUDENT athletes. This aint the pros yall. We're developing bright minds here and conferences want the brightest and best reppin them. Thus, matters like endowment and academics matter.

Most of that comes from the start up costs of football, such as refurbishing Ballard Stadium and building the new football center and endzone facility. They also have, up till this point, been dependent on gate revenue to support the program. This is why anyone that looked at ODU's financials knew they were planning a jump to FBS. Once they're able to offset the student fees with TV revenue money, then the fees will drop.
