Memphis is too good a program to be content with first round losses.

I totally agree with that. While last year's loss to St. Louis was a hard one for Memphis fans to take, I think what sticks in the craw more is Josh's lack of any wins over top 25 teams. The media doesn't seem to "validate" us unless we do that.

That's similar to why the game with Xavier next week is important. Xavier has an rpi in the 90s, but if Memphis wins the irrational and biased media will somehow view it as something better than beating lil ol' USM with an rpi of 34.

In the tourney this year, if Josh loses in the first game, the Memphis board will implode.

USM is like a bulldog that keeps coming at you no matter what you do. You think that you have that dog in a spot that it will give up and suddenly it strikes with forcing a string of turnovers and hits a few 3 pointers in a row and a 15 point lead can become 6 before you know what's happened.

Blue collar defensive that can cause turnovers in bunches with spot shooters that can light it up at any time are a dangerous combo.

The 1st half combination of the one foul that where the Tigers scored 6 total points and Crawford hitting a couple of quick 3s seemed to send the Eagles into a "here we go again" mindset for the balance of the half. It was hard to recover from that hole.

I don't have any problem with Rendezvous. The BBQ nachos at the Forum are much better now that Neely's is gone.

In both games against us, you guys have looked like thoroughbreds running against geldings.

If you continue to play with pace, it will be hard for early round teams to beat you. Your ball movement is fun to watch.

Glad you had a good time. Did you try any other BBQ besides Rendezvous? I don't know what it is about that place, but every time I have been it has been just awful.

I'm not sure Tom's is as good as it once was. I've had good and less than good at most of the places mentioned. Often it's personal preference on Q.

Rendezvous is good in a weird way; ribs tasted good, there's a smoke ring, but very little smoke flavor, as if no wood is used. Brisket was pretty decent, tasty, but a little tough, not bad though. BBQ sauce had the perfect sweet/sour balance

Central BBQ dry ribs were great, classic wood smoke flavor, sauce complimented the meat very well.

B.B. King BBQ ribs were surprisingly awesome, considering I hadn't heard anything about the place. Sweet potato puffs are a great innovation, just delicious.


All in all I had a great time in Memphis. I had been a few times before, but it was always a quick in & out experience. I like all forms of BBQ and Memphis knocked theirs out of the park. All the Memphis fans we met were cordial and generous, you won't hear a complaint from me.
