Thanks for nothing, Meatball!

wtf are you talking about? UL is getting out before the BE is officially relegated to "mid-major" status.

But not before it starts to get PAID like a midmajor. Unless the C-7 presidents vote down the deal.

Now there's a piece of leverage I hadn't considered. If the C-7 can block the ESPN deal, then they have the ability to demand some concessions in exchange for not blocking the deal, right?

I don't think they are voting on the contract.

Blaudschun says that a 2013 C-7 exit is still being discussed...

The Big East’s television future is secure for the next seven years. Now Aresco and Company must make the break up with the Catholic 7 as smooth as possible. Sources in the Big East say that both sides are very close to reaching an agreement, perhaps as soon as the next few weeks.

The first major announcement will be the departure date. The consensus opinion seems to be that will be July of 2014, but on Saturday afternoon one Big East source said that a departure by this July is still being discussed. How that would work that quickly remains to be seen.

I tried to tell people that there was a reason NBC keeps losing in the bidding process. It's going to take overpaying to win a property in a rapidly escalating rights market. The NBC corporate culture is just not wired that way.

It's amazing they've held the Olympics as long as they have with that logic.

Everyone said NBC overpaid for the Olympics. At the time, it was probably true. That's the nature if buying in a rapidly escalating marketplace. That investment has paid off handsomely for NBC.

Comcast owns NBC now and Comcast has a reputation for being cheap. The NBC Sports guys persuaded Comcast that the Olympics and NFL are worth overpaying for, but they can't persuade Comcast that any other live sports rights are worth getting into a competitive bidding situation. They made the opening bid for the Pac-12 and then walked away rather than get into a bidding war with the ESPN/Fox alliance. They bid on two of the MLB broadcast packages and got crushed by Fox for one and TBS for the other. Comcast will apparently just keep looking for cheap ways to fill the NBCSN schedule.

03-hissyfit Poor $90M budget Louisville. Getting paid like a mid-major for one season.

If you had the football team we have next year you'd say the exact same thing. But you don't.

Loserville fans have absolutely zero class. Perhaps that is why they attended that joke of a school in the first place.

the Boise games that did not sell out were the mid-week games and attendance dropped off, yet Boise valued the exposure more. I am sure this value proposition is different for each school. If I don't make much on TV I want the home game atmosphere. If TV is paying Big Bucks then yea give me some mid-week games and exposure as the money is fine.

A school like Boise should be less affected due to being in a metro area where many of thier fans live nearby. Schools in more rural locations require thier fans to travel in from other locations. I would think the mid-week games would hit thier attendance harder.

agree. Schools in more rural settings where fans drive more to games are hurt by mid week games in the attendance department more. MWC also tried to minimize mid-week games for this reason

Our entire state has 1.9 Million people and we got 50k+ for most our of midweek games. Some of you guys are just making excuses.

Morgantown isn't exactly rural, nor is it isolated.

Neither is Greenville. Compare the population of Greenville to Morgantown...

Blah blah blah. Thank God we avoid playing you guys next year. Can't fathom how many cheap shots your thug players would take on Teddy.

It would be a huge shock...a team that is returning 10 out of 11 starters on defense and returning 7 Starters on Offensive including the best NFL QB Prospect in the Nation in Teddy Bridgewater.

Like us or not but we are loaded.
