The Big East's $10 million figure for the men's basketball season in 2013-14 is based on the seven Catholic schools remaining in the league next season, sources said. If those schools leave the Big East before next year, that figure would be reduced.

So it could be even less money if the C-7 leaves before next year. Geeezzzz.......

Lol. Hard to argue that. It's tough, because what are you supposed to do?
USM can't sniff an invite to a better conference ( whatever that means) despite having an outstanding football program. ( last year aside). Did Memphis ho themselves out for the chance at a one year jackpot BCS birth!? Yeah, probaly. Did Memphis want to be with UL and UC? Sure.

All this conference }#%^ is tired to me. Some fans turn their noses p at Ark State or MTSU and ODU. Why? It's absurd to me.

Give Georgia Southern or Southern Miss the money to infuse into their programs that the SEC schools get and watch what happens. They'd start whooping some serious arse.

The fact is that there are a few power conferences and then everybody else. If a leader would emerge and make the best of the "left outs" stick together, you'd be on to something. Instead, we scramble over the carcasses to not be the last one of the sinking ship.

Fix the dang ship!

I think the point of the OP is that as it turns out Memphis can't sniff an invite to a better conference either.

I wasn't trying to be a smart aleck.
Again, "better conference" is perception.

We can all agree that ESPN will screw us both over.

To the first statement....it's chump change! To the third sentence, ESPN has and will continuing to screw the nBE. CUSA is with Fox.

If you can actually get the FOX feed. FOX SS, FOX SC, and that CSS are not always showing the CUSA game that IS ON FOX. The kind of crap really pissed me off.

But, here's the thing. I feel like USM and Tulsa are like teams. Teams we should still be with.

This is what helped more than anyone will admit kill the BE. When the tv networks saw a school that can't put 6000 fans in the seats, is it any surprise they got the tv contract they got and is it any suprise that as soon as Tulane was announced the C7 said forget it, we are the hell out of here. Well, Tulane is the BE's deadweight now. Thank goodness for that.

I was hoping for $3million. I agree with the logic that you can't take a bunch of CUSA schools and group them with UCONN, UC, USF and Temple thinking that now warrants $8 million. If the league stays together and the product improves then hopefully it will get more money on the next contract. Big Media basically only wants the Big 4/ACC/ND to manage for inventory and then just use the Gang of 5 as filler. We have all witnessed this coverage and the ESPN crew usually spends more time talking about a big game coming up that weekend between the big boys or just what is going on in general with College Football then they do actually talking about the two teams playing.

Just imagine if the Big East, C-USA, MWC, and Sun Belt would form an alliance (even unofficially) and stop fighting each other to demand more respect and fairness. Sadly, we are too busy trying to outdo each other and who cares if we work against the other conference as long as WE are the ones best served. Greed is the way of our nation in all walks of life so I guess to expect mid major conferences to work collectively to up the level for all is just asking too much.

On ESPN against opponents of perceived higher quality. I say perceived because I believe that CUS has some quality teams in football/basketball, but the media refuses to acknowledge it.

It is what it is. But, there are some positives to it, however small. I was never for the BE move, and I don't see much difference between the conferences in reality.

I respect your opinions, but this one is skewed. You are basically saying that the media doesn't respect CUSA, but in reality, the nBE is CUSA. I agree they don't respect us, so why would changing one's name to nBE change perception? It didn't with the networks.

More money...where does the leveling begin to realize positive income...about 7 years???? How is that smart business at any level.

Everyone that has pounded chests or rationalize the move has been proven wrong to date.

There is NO positive spin to any of this.

I agree they don't respect the NBE either. I'd be a fool to argue otherwise. When the blue bloods left, it was game over.

The Gang of 5 is quickly becoming a seperate league from the Big 5 so we better all learn to get along. In a perfect world we would form a league with the best programs from MWC, Big East, CUSA, MAC and Sunbelt, even if it was 24 teams

This thread is just another anti Big East thread. It's unnecessary and getting old. When did all these usm posters get so bitter?

The truth hurts. Personal attacks are all you have to combat the truth. Now who is pathetic? Tulane was the final piece that destroyed any future for the BE. That has proven to be true. So go ahead and personally attack me now.

it's beyond offensive when the defectors toss this grenade; yes, the thing you damaged is indeed damaged. And you did it for what has turned out to be almost no reason.

You shouldn't be so ****** proud of it.

what amazes the hell out of me is the utter lack of outrage at the people that lied to you. you got hammered in one if the biggest swindles in the history of con jobs, and your best observation is that you caused harm. Please, spare us.

Defense of what? NBE will make more money for Tulane than CUSA. NBE will keep Tulane with schools Tulane clearly wants to be with. Those statements can defend themselves.
