In theory this is good, but the cable networks will find ways around this. Your team will soon be on the entire "family" of channels along with a conference channel. They will add channels and raise rates. Popular tv shows will be split and put on different channels forcing you to buy both. In the end there may be some savings, but not as much as people think (imho).

Definitely a "be careful what you wish for" situation. The Law of Unintended Consequences will be in full play.

RE: Lawsuit could lead to a la carte programming
Ain't gonna happen. Companies like Viacom bundle channels to even get those channels on the air. The additional rights fees for many of those other channels isn't very much at all (if anything - sometimes they're just thrown in for free). To exclude them would essentially mean the provider would end up paying nearly the same cost per subscriber as they do now for less channels. Viacom won't lose this, as they know that if those lesser channels go a-la-carte, they will die, so the real outcome of this is either a Viacom win or a settlement. My money is on the latter.

The stuff they put on MTV and VH1 validates your statement.

Cable's time is winding down anyway, the Internet is where it's at. In a decade or so, it'll all be online.

You will pay way more than you pay now. Also the conglomerates will want all if their networks together. It sounds good but will be chitty in reality.

Members of my family have already cut the cable cord, paying smaller bucks and without a lawsuit. They get broadband and get shows online. It's already happening. I am watching to see if I do the same.

It would be very interesting to see what would happen if Cablevision wins
