It's only free if they wait 27 months. Otherwise, they have to pay to leave early. Aresco isn't going to let anyone off the hook so ND has to come up other options. If the C7 becomes the Big East then ND can negotiate with them instead.

Actually no. The football league is still going to be the ongoing conference. The "Big East" will be considered by the NCAA a new conference.

Notre Dame has a unique status in the prenup--it could be that they choose which group to go with.

I really don't think so. I could see it for the ACC- but not to go with the teams that are "leaving" without some compensation to the remaining schools...

Remember when the prenup is written. The main reasons for the 8-8 hybrid are A) BC bolted, so the football schools were down to 5 and B) Notre Dame wanted the hybrid, so they refused to join either group. (No Notre Dame, no 6-schools-for-5-years, so no autobid.) The pre-nup is written as an agreement between the I-A Schools, the Non-I-A Schools and Notre Dame. Is it that farfetched that there's a clause that Notre Dame gets to join whichever side they want in a split?

I agree with that but then I think ND withdrawing already complicates this greatly..

And maybe stalling for a year until all of the conference movements have finally stopped to see what shape the ACC is in before they are completely in.
Its somewhat fun watching Notre Dame sit uneasy. All they had to do was commit to the Big East's current group. The C7 would still be here plus the football group probably would have quit at 10 to keep the league a reasonable size.

When schools that caused the problem complain it is such a riot Notre Dame will still collect big checks and go about doing what they do.

Also funny, WVU's travel issues.
It could be worse. We could still be stuck in The BEast, like UC...

Ouch!

How do we know that? I don't think that the prenup has ever been seen by anyone outside the league.

All we have is what reporters are telling us that sources are telling them. which means partial information with each source putting his/her own spin on it.
