My, my...how quickly things do change. I give this new tune 2.5 stars...but it's got a beat and you can dance to it.

RE: The situation of the incoming Big East schools clearly calls for a Zany Scheme
Again, the conference MEMPHIS, UCF, SMU, and Houston is joining is NOT the conference that invited us to begin with. That's the core issue.

Even Temple - a FB member that joined last year to help the others out - isn't slated to even get 1/4 of what the elitist 3 claim as theirs.

If the existing members are that damn greedy, so be it. Eliminate the entry fees, though. Surely you three understand we really can't tolerate you extending out one hand for the entry fees while you're dragging the damn loot from your selling the Big East name to your Brinks trucks, right? Eliminate the entry fee to join the Aresco Conference and it will be a deal that is accepted grudgingly.

Someday the new members will out number the old guard. It might be time to restructure a few things then.

So.. lets start a league for 2013 that includes no TV deal, no autobid, not large scale media backer, no established sponsors and forgo the last year of the BCS payout out of spite... If the idea was to do this for 2014, I could see it possibly happening, but now, no way.

That whole scenario is a nonstarter. Do you really think that even though it took 2 to 3 years of negotiation to get a TV deal figured out for the BE that a new league could get it done by July? There is no longterm brands, no established headliners so to speak, to drive a deal like this getting done. No TV partner will be willing to just run with this concept. The pilot studies for the media exposure would just be finishing by the time the deadline to have a deal done. At best you would be looking at a paltry sum because of the risk of being unable to secure advertisers.

Any fan willing to not have any home game of their team on TV all year next year in any sport? At best you get a local distribution rights deal.
What you're describing doesn't sound much different than what these schools are about to join. The have a TV contract that sucks, no large scale media backing, no sponsors worth speaking of, and no autobid without the new members. The BCS payout isn't going to compensate the new members enough to pay their exit and entry fees. It won't even pay them enough to compensate them for their entry fees...

A new conference would give them the right to determine their own destiny, rather than trying to adjust to an existing situation. It also puts them on the road to their own autobid faster, and the better programs can always earn an at-large bid...

I see little difference between the 2 options, except for the fact that the incoming schools would be the ones calling the shot...

Another aspect I like about it is the fact that it returns the NCAA credits to the schools that earned 'em. That's an added bonus I really like...

It is a far closer call than many will admit Bit. Still I think they are better off joining and then they will drive the ship. You can take a ride with CYTBN (Conference Yet To Be Named) ford POS or try to build your own car from scratch.

Both approaches have ups and downs.

Sure they get boned by the few schools waiting for them but after they they drive and have UConn and Ciny in their hoops conference (could be for one year or 10 years).

Except they don't really drive. Under the Big East bylaws you need 3/4 to do anything important. UConn, Cincy and USF will have the votes to block whatever the new schools come up with.

Not if the other 9 schools vote against them. 9/12=3/4, or 75%, unless mathematics has changed since I went to school...

Navy won't be a full member, though. 8/11= 73%.

That's assuming Navy joins. Is that certain yet? The last I saw, they were still waffling on the idea...

They were at Friday's meeting. The last public statement I recall from Navy was their AD saying, in as direct a quote as I can remember, "What are our other options? Conference USA? The Mid-American Conference?" He specifically didn't mention staying independent. This was when Boise STate left.

Maybe Syracuse can share some of their wealth since they played a huge part in the c7 moving on! 05-stirthepot 03-lmfao

Actually it was after You Guys voted in Tulane and then decided something just went wrong here and then You Bailed leaving the FB schools hanging. You also left Rutgers and Louisville hanging as You Guys seem OK with packing up and leaving in about 3 weeks as most of the C7 won't even make the Tournament. You realize the Football schools have made the most noise in the NCAA BB the last several years. Don't blame the Football schools for Your Midnight move.

I'm sure Navy doesn't want to go back and renegotiate all those football games it just canceled. If the conference needs a 12th school for football, invite Missouri State or UMass for football only, and make them play six games a year in basketball. One less mouth to feed by not inviting Tulsa.

keep telling yourself whatever you need to sleep at night. I dont like the idea of the c7 leaving this quickly, but the league is crumbling down.
Had Syracuse decided to remain in the BE and convinced the other fb schools including yours, to stick together and remain strong, none of this would have happened.
Louisville stays boise and san diego still come. Cuse and YOUR school among others had no problem leaving the rest of the BE twisting in the wind. Spare me your holier than thou attitude. YOUR school chased the money. that was a contibuting factor in the less than stellar deal that the BE would have gotten next year. The C7 went off as a group. They showed loyality to each other something YOUR school, Syracuse and most of the rest of the FB schools seem incapable of.

At least half of the FB schools are going to make the tourney either so whats your point?

Speaking of folded FBS conferences, what about the Big West? They could take in the homeless CUSA/Big East teams. They could call up SDSU and Boise again and get the ball rolling again for an all-sports national conference. You'd have HAwaii, and getting SJSU, Fresno STate, UNLV or UNR to come wouldn't be much of a stretch.

The drug is strong in this one. MMMMM strong it is.:schwartz:

(03-04-2013 11:07 AM)Captain Bearcat Wrote:  This is ridiculous. We deserve it because we were hurt the most by reallignment.

Part of the purpose of exit fees is to compensate schools who are hurt by departing schools. In 2015 our revenue from the conference will be about $5-6 million less than it is this year (tv contracts, bowl revenue, NCAA credits). Even if you spread the $25 million over only 4 years, we're still barely breaking even here.

In reality we're hurt even worse than that because we had anticipated getting $10-15 million MORE than this year (because we were already undervalued). Our admins have been kicking in $10 million/year to the AD budget in order to keep up with the Joneses (particularly such pesky neighbors as the Boilers, Wildcats, and Illini who we compete with for recruits). We had anticipated that number to go down, but now it's going to have to increase even if we want to just tread water.

The C-7 will be fine. Oh sure they deserve something, and they're getting a good amount in the settlement(3.5 million/school).

The new Aresco League members are actually getting a substantial boost to their media and bowl money. They did nothing to deserve any of the exit fees. Their only legit complaint is that they thought they were getting to play BE basketball. They're getting $1 million each to compensate for that, which is overly generous. IMO it's hush money to keep them from raising the type of stink that the OP is suggesting.

Ehh. You were hurt by realignment, but before that you were massively helped by realignment. Overall, you are much farther along due to the winds of realighnment.

What I don't understand is if the Big East Name is sold..Then how can there be entrance fees for the new schools Joining the Big East when the Big East is No More ?

They didn't pay a fee to join Unknown Conference so I see this being waved...

UConn and Cinci (maybe even USF too) will probably be gone by the time we get there. There wont likley be anyone to pay entry fees to other than Temple. At that point, everyone will just vote to waive the fees. Then those schools will have to start building the looted, empty, unknown, conference with no name from scratch. Dont think they plan on leaving anything behind but two staplers and a broken offfice chair with one arm.

1. One of those staplers is ours, according to the Pre-Nup.
2. The other one is Milton's, and if they take it, he's going to burn the building down.
