I miss the old bowl games too. Cotton, Rose, Tangerine, Orange, etc. But let's not forget that back then there were only three national TV stations broadcasting those games; ABC, CBS, and NBC. Now we have cable channels that have taken over.

I can remember when you didn't have names like godaddy.com bowl, champs bowl, etc. but had names like the gator bowl, tangerine bowl, cigar bowl (yes in Havana Cuba) and other names like that. Didn't even have the corporate sponsor mentioned in the name, and the teams that played in them weren't conference tied. Of course there wasn't so many and so any team that went to a bowl accomplished something tough. Oh well, maybe Walmart will buy USM and we can then join the Haliburton SEC.

There also were not the payouts in those games that we have now. If things were still as they were, most years our Champion would be without a bowl. I miss the old days too, but its a trade off, and it works out much better for programs like ours.

Xactly! We can only wish for an association like Fed Ex/MEM or Nike/Oregon.

Let's get this straight. If you want to talk the "old" bowl games, you do not put the Tangerine in the list with the others you mentioned. In the "good ol' days there were only four major bowl games; Rose, Cotton, Sugar and Orange. The Tangerine Bowl for years was for teams that today would be FCS schools. Even East Texas State (now Texas A&M Commerce) won the Tangerine Bowl three times during the fifties.

You are absolutely right about the impact of ESPN and cable TV, however.

I think the contract for the Belk (Charlotte) and the BBVA (Birmingham)is up as well. With Charlotte on board I'm hoping the Belk will be involved with CUSA. SanAntonio would be a good location as well.

Below what? You ARE the below now.

Yup, but we will get ours from leagues below us.

Who said there was going to be a pot of gold for the schools that left...Sure, we will end up getting substantially more money over the next 5 or 6 years than any other "non-power" conference but it will still be a substantially less than any school in a "Power Conference".

The Belk Bowl in not hitching its wagon to Charlotte, CUSA, or even the Old Big East. The line in the sand has been drawn and every Bowl is going to do its best to align with only "Power 5" conferences if possible. If that does not work out then they will start looking at the "non-power" conferences.

Yep, Charlotte Bowl will go with ACC vs a Big4 deal. Pinstripe Bowl will most likely go with the ACC vs Big1G. Liberty Bowl will most likely sign a deal with the new Big East Conference since Memphis/FedEx relationship and the Liberty Bowl has a great relationship with ECU plus UC and UCF have also travelled well to the Liberty Bowl. Military Bowl will probably give the conference to be named later a strong look with ECU, Temple and possibly Navy near by. Beef O'Bradys probably stays CUSA vs Conference to be named. There will be some shake up and nobody outside of the Big5 is going to have a decent bowl line up. The best Bowl available for a non Big5 is the Liberty Bowl and we have the best shot at that. All the more reason to schedule quality OOC games to go watch in the warm months of September and October since most of us will be going to cold dumps for our Bowl games.

I'll give it to you Conference America guys here lately, you've stopped trying to blow sugar up everyones asses.

The reality has become too disappointing and futile even for your biggest cheerleaders....

I think most reasonable fans of these schools understood that this move was not going to be a windfall of money or provide us with some sort of great benefit at the level of the "Power 5" conferences. We will end up with some more money and probably much better TV exposure but nothing that substantially sets us apart from any of the other conferences outside the Big 5.

Sure there were some fans, especially early on that were seeing dollar signs but that was before the league imploded...If that would not have happened Houston, UCF, and SMU probably would have seen a significant increase in money....But once everything started falling apart most fans knew this was not going to be the case...Sure, there were a few nut cases running around with unrealistic expectations.

We will see...There was a pecking order for the non-BCS conferences so there is no reason to suspect there will not be one under the new system as well. I would imagine that the MWC and whatever the old Big East is named will end up with better bowl tie-ins than the CUSA, MAC, Sunbelt, ect. None of these conferences will end up with great bowls but we all know some available will still be better than others and most likely those bowls will try to align with the MWC and the old Big East. I could be wrong but I doubt it...

The MWC never had a good bowl line up when they had BYU, TCU and Utah, I really doubt they'll have one now.

I can see C-USA fighting to keep the Armed Forces Bowl, other than that the MWC can keep all their bowls for all I care.

Most of the MW bowls are located so far out west that they wouldnt be very attractive to anyone other than the MW and Pac-12. I believe virtually all current contract on bowls end after the 2013 season (I think theres a few exceptions). So, everyones bowl line ups are very likley to see some changes as different bowls attempt to move up to get better matchups and some bowls lose anchor conferences to bowls willing to pony up more cash. My understanding is that the process is well underway and its expected that most bowls will nail down thier post 2013 new (or renewed) tie-ins over the next 4-6 months. CUSA is ahead of the game due to the charity that Baowsky heads having purchased the Heart of Dallas Bowl. That virtually guarantees that the Heart Of Dallas Bowl will serve as the CUSA anchor bowl post 2013.

I went to ECU/Marshall basketball game tonight (great win as ECU finished in fourth place with a first round bye) What I notice was during the game was all banner of present 12 Cusa teams and realize 6 or 7 (Tulsa ?) will be gone after next year. As we talk about big hit of nBE schools leaving it is like a pecking order as Cusa losing schools it will now replace schools from other conferences. I am sure bowls selections will go the same. Anyway, Cusa has been good to ECU and I hope we can still schedule such teams as USM and Marshall......good programs with good fan base.
