Number of people on food stamps in December.
23% of District of Columbia residence!
Over 4 million from Texas. Guess promoting food stamps in spanish is working since 70% of illegals in Texas are receiving benefits.
Using food stamps to "stimulate" the economy.

Thats all.

Won't be good enough for these progs until all people are on government assistance and we're all wards of the state. That way they can distribute everything and we can all be equal. Yay!

Saw the 70% figure in the Houston Chronical. It goes on to say that the 70% figure represents illegal immigrants collecting welfare on behalf of their US born children.

Then it's not 'illegals' receiving benefits is it? Don't like it, change the citizenship law.

It's on behalf of the anchor babies as VA stated. How anybody can't see the problem with the "anchor baby" law is beyond me. We can argue the definition of "illegal" all day, but the bottom line is that when they come here and have a baby, they don't become legal citizens. The child may be a citizen, but the parents, 2 older siblings, 4 cousins, 2 aunts and uncles are not. My question on this relates to how much the illegal household receives. Do they receive benefits for one child, or is the entire household receiving benefits as a result?

As for the basic fact that stamps are being promoted in Spanish, here it is from the USDA website.

Quote:Partnering with Mexico. USDA and the government of Mexico have entered into a partnership to help educate eligible Mexican nationals living in the United States about available nutrition assistance. Mexico will help disseminate this information through its embassy and network of approximately 50 consular offices.
and...
Quote:Making Program Application Easier for Non-English Speakers. While SNAP currently offers a number of informational and promotional materials in Spanish for potential applicants and retailers, USDA is expanding the number and types of products available in Spanish and other languages. States with web sites must post their applications on the Internet in the same languages they currently use for paper applications. The school meal programs also make applications for free and reduced-price meals available in Spanish.
USDA

Not shocking that whether or not the Texas recipients are illegals or the illegal parents of a citizen child is why Rob and Transistor are focusing on. Its the only debatable point in the post. Even they can't be happy with the number of people on food stamps or the fact that the govt is propping up the economy with them.

Not really. Illegals can't vote and the children of the illegals are eiher not old enough to vote or vote for the Democrats if they are old enough to vote. It wouldn't effect the conservative parties very much.

Oh, but they are happy and wish even more people were on them. Just ask Rob, he's already stated that Fedral spending is the way to grow the economy - besides Rob loves his food stamps.........

Not at all. Not sure where you got that. Just saying geopolitical reasons will prevent any substantial immigration reform.

Let's look at this part of the data for a moment.

23% of District of Columbia residence on food stamps.

29.2% of District of Columbia residents are government employees.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/160337/alaska...yment.aspx
Well over half of that 29.2% (18.8% to be exact) are federal employees with an average annual wage of $126,000. Safe to say those aren't receiving food stamps.
For arguments sake lets say that none of the government employees, federal or state, are receiving food stamps. That would mean 32% of non-government employees in DC receive food stamps.

Is this the direction the country needs to be headed?

That is a butchering of the statistics. That assumes that all food stamp recipients are employees. If your narrative were true (and it is to an extent) it's an indictment of the private sector's failure to bring along those at the bottom of the wage ladder with the ballooning income at the top.

I make too much to get food stamps. In a bad economy, yes it can help the economy.
