I highly doubt they'd join the ECAC. Revamped percentages...

90% - B1G
10% - Big East

The ACC is making a mistake then...JHU as an Associate Member means really little except for making up a Lax league.

I find it hard to believe that they are not at least looking at ACC and Patriot.

Technically speaking the statement was about what conferences were looking at JHU. The fact that JHU put out a statement means that it is very likely that JHU would then want to know what the ACC thinks about this.

Fishing for an ACC invite in order to use an ACC invite and a Big Ten invite in competition against each other in order to get the best deal possible?

I could totally see JHU wanting to be able to put together a D1 basketball team in the near future if they joined either league.

Of course, if the ivy is expanding, than they join the ivy but doubt that happens + the ivy likes travel partners so they would need to bring in 2 to jump to 10.

Sorry but BU isn't leaving HE anytime soon. They're not leaving the best hockey conference with a bunch of local teams to join a bunch of midwestern schools for less money.

Umm, I would argue the Best hockey conference is now the NCHC with North Dakota, Miami (OH), Denver, UMD etc....

Notre Dame aside, the ACC really doesn't like partial members. (Even there they're playing the long game hoping ND joins in full.)

Maybe the ACC is interested in Johns Hopkins, but I'll have to see something much more substantial to see this as a Big Ten vs ACC battle.

I think the only reason they would move up their sports is if the Ivy League came calling.

I don't understand. The cost involved in getting into basketball is much much lower than football but if they had the opportunity to get into D1 basketball in a league that makes as much Tournament money as the Big Ten and ACC do then why wouldn't they want to get involved with that at some point in the future? As an associate member they wont get any of that.

They would have great trouble competing with their academic standards. They'd also have to invest a lot of money to get their facilities up to par with the B1G or ACC. Plus they have little to no fan support for basketball.

Alright, I see what you are saying but if lacrosse lands on the BTN then it is very likely JHU is the premier brand presented on the network.

I would be interested in seeing just how much JHU would stand to make off of an associate Big Ten membership.

If Hopkins is looking for an easy road to auto-bid, the ACC isn't it.

No doubt, but man, what a conference it would be! Hell, the one off ACC season next year will be grand. As already stated in this thread, only 9 schools have ever won a national title in lacrosse with 4 more schools ever having appeared in a final. And 6 of those 13 will be in the ACC next year. If Hopkins were to replace the departing Maryland, it would put 29 of the 41 lacrosse titles in one conference. And outside of Loyola's win last season, you have to go back to 2001 before finding a non-ACC school or Hopkins (note I am including Syracuse as an ACC school) who won it all.

I have not seen much linking the ACC to Hopkins. Superficially it makes sense. Hopkins already has ties to ESPN, where the ACC has granted its rights. I'm sure the ACC would not mind forming a super conference in a small, but growing sport. It helps give the ACC some presence back in the state of Maryland. And Hopkins likely fits better with the ACC's more private school oriented conference. But none of that means it happens. As a fan, I would love to see it, however.

JHU couldn't jump in all sports straight to the Big 10. They would have to first be accepted by a DII conference, spend 4-5 years at DII, then make jump. And add football.

An affiliate membership gives you NO rights to do anything else.

The only issue I would have with an associate/affiliate member is if that school is part of another major conference. For example, I wouldn't want an SEC school as an associate for member for LAX.

Hopkins has an awesome LAX program but it is still a non-revenue sport. I don't see that being a big bargaining chip. I can see conferences being interested but I can't see them giving JHU a ton of money.

Johns Hopkins already has a football program. You are correct on the other points. No school can move directly from Division III to Division I.
