The Dixie / Yankee Classic
With all the posts about holding the ACCT in MSG I have an idea. One of the great tourneys of all time was one called "The Dixie Classic." If I remember correctly it was the "Big Four" (State, WF, Duke and UNC-CH) vs four invited schools. It was before my time but people use to talk about how great it was. Then there was a points shaving scandel and they ended it. I think it was a Christmas tourney. It has been over fifty years so maybe it is time we revived it.

We could have dueling ACC challenge tourneys. Each Christmas we could have The Dixie/Yankee Classics. Rotating between Atlanta, Raleigh and Miami we could have the Dixie half. Two Southern Schools host five to six other ACC schools with a special guest when there are five. When it is in Miami the host schools would be Miami and FSU. In Atlanta it would be GT and Clemson. In Raleigh it would be NCSU and WF. For the Yankee half we could rotate between Pitt, Boston and New York City. When in NYC the two northern hosts could be Syracuse and ND. In Pitt. the hosts could be Pitt and Louisville. When in Boston it could be BC and UVA.

The schools that weren't hosts would be the other two home schools and the visitors. Since there are 15 schools there would be four conference visitors at one site and three in the other with a special guest. It could be a team from near the location that would be a local favorite, like Georgia, ECU, UMass, St Johns or a national power or high profile mid-major.

The games wouldn't count as conference games. Everybody will get to play in somewhere different each year since the teams that are hosts are only hosts once every three years.

An Old BE Centric Idea:

Every December MSG hosts a double header of old BE alumni teams over two nights. Syracuse would always be a host to help draw the fans.

Syracuse and one other ACC (BE) Team would play either (old BE) teams from the B1G, America12 or C7.

You could do the same thing in Chicago with Notre Dame, Louisville, Marquette, and Depaul.

Sounds like a fine idea in theory. Although I think it has become pretty taboo to put the name Dixie on anything this day and age? Especially when it comes to a sponsor attaching their name to it commercially...

I agree with the name issue. We have the ACC/B1G challenge. I think most schools would want a H/H deal.

Oh come on people. Dixie simply means the South. Don't over think this thing.
