2014 Football Recruiting
Rice held their Junior Day this weekend and recorded their first commitment.

Aaron Jenkins, DT from Dallas Lincoln, 6-2 285.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/rice/football/re...CL1x6_8bB_

Good position to get started with.

Found this after a quick search http://tcu.scout.com/2/1255069.html Wonder how much that bowl win in Dallas helped? Great to see us getting a commitment from one of the best players out of a winning program.

Jr year highlights (played both ways, first year at DT):

Pretty strong build for a high schooler.

Hey mods, can we get this thread pinned? The 2013 thread can probably be de-pinned. Thanks.

Rice has an offer out to play both baseball and football to Whitehouse, TX QB/FS/pitcher/short stop Pat Mahomes, son of the former MLB pitcher of the same name.

Some of his FB highlights are reminiscent of Manziel:

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/886649/highlights/34006377

He's got a FB offer from Texas Tech and some other pretty good baseball offers. He's probably a bit of a long shot for Rice but who knows. The staff is evaluating players for other QB offers for the 2014 class.

Have there been many two sport QB's in the spread era? pat white at WVU, but he was clearly run first.

I just don't know if it is practical to miss spring football and play QB. ditto for pitching and playing safety, due to injury risk.

I think safety/DH is a potentially a great combination.

Some guy named Russell Wilson, who was at NCSU and then Wisconsin, but I do not know what happened to him after that. :)

Doug Johnson, at Florida, about 10 years ago.

Kyle Parker at Clemson was pretty good in both.

'nuff said. It can be done if the player has exceptional ability, discipline and intelligence.

This our third player from Mesquite Horn? DJ Green, Jorian Clark, and now Andrew Morris. Looks like we have the makings of a second pipeline.

4th commit is in. 6-6 250lbs offensive tackle Hunter Ponder of Mansfield.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/375793/highlights/22732378

This is the fastest recruiting start I can recall. The recruit reaction to the Junior Day (coupled with coming off bowl win) has been very strong.

All 4 are from the greater DFW environs. I wonder if the bowl game being in FW had any impact?
