Metropolitan 12 is clean, simple - abreviated Metro 12 or MC12

Why add Great or Big or whatever?

I actually like the sound of the "Metropolitian 12." As others have pointed out, you can adjust the numbers up and down. Problem is, if the conference is unstable (the Pac 12 is not), it may not be a good idea, because you would be adjusting the number with regularity.

There could be some movement on numbers, but the reality is that we'd probably just be referred to as the Metro anyway.

I will fight that as long as I am drawing breath. I could live with "Metro 12", "Great Metro Conference / GMC", etc. Damned if I can see why "EAC" would not work though.

Yeah, Im not crazy about this either, its not what I wanted, but I guess it will be fine if thats what we are stuck with. Ive at least been convinced it wont be a disaster.

Basically everything I thought this conference would be has failed to come to pass, so at this point, Im having trouble working myself into a lather over the Metro name. Once we sold the Big East name, the chance to quickly regain our footing by using the Big East name to solidify and improve recruiting was destroyed. Any new name is going to take a decade to mean anything to the general public and to future recruits. If my school is still here in a decade then thats what will be a far bigger concern to me than the name of this C-USA redux.

To be honest, at this point, the only thing that we need to do is avoid a name that will be embarassing in 10-15 years. The Big Metropoliton Conference could have a decent abreviation like Big-Met. At the very least, I dont think it will be an embarassment in a decade like C-USA is.

The numbers weren't my problem with A-12, so go for it.

You can call it Great Big or Gargantum or 10 12 16 or Infinity-they are still going to refer to it as The Metro.

Just go with the flow-you can't change the tide

"Metropolitan 12" sounds like an acapella group from "Sing Off". I like just plain "Metro"

in all seriousness, "Metro" or "Metropolitan" are fine with me. Would prefer no numbers.

This. Many of our schools were in the Metro. Everyone grouses about history... well this is a nod to our history. 04-cheers

Some of us were in the SWC but you don't see us trying to shove that name down everyone's throats

I've been writing on here for weeks that the Metro Conference is a ridiculous choice for re-branding. It is a re-tread of a failed Reagan-era, mid-major, basketball-only conference with a history of substantial membership instability, which eventually merged with another mid-major to form Conference USA, which is the conference from which we are all trying to distance ourselves.

Anyone who can't see the Metro Conference in those terms, is naive. Of course, for all the reasons above, we will choose to call ourselves the Metro Conference. 03-banghead

+100000000000000000000

Could not have said it better myself.

Failed League. Failed attempt at rebranding if we go with it.

TOTAL FAILURE.

You are wrong about one thing. The Metro was never considered or referred to as a mid major conference.

RE: "Metropolitan 12"
Metro = minor league, mid major failed basketball league name.

Metro = permanently cementing yourself into mid major status.

Metro = Complete unimaginative name and attempt at rebranding.
