Set your expectations really low. The actual CBS/Fox deal will be somewhere below that.

If there is a FOX deal directly with the conference. If ESPN signed a deal to sublicense games to FOX from their rights deal, that's just exposure. No money for the conference. Just defrays the net amount ESPN has to pay.

If the payout actually goes up per basketball school, as reported, I see nothing to spin.

I'm not talking about the "loss" in money I am talking about the deal in it's entirety. We should finally figure out if all his promises of amazing exposure and everything else is true or a bunch of crap.

Everything I have read indicates that ESPN has it all save for a small side deal with CBS for some basketball games. Its been stated in multiple published accounts that ESPN can sublicense games to other networks. The questions that have not been clearly answered are

1) Does the unnamed conference shares in any way from this additional revenue

2) Do we have any say in where the games are shown

3) Does ESPN-3 count as "national televised" in Arescos view

4) What is the breakdown between weekend and weeknight slots for the unnamed conference

Of course, its always possible that earlier accounts are wrong and ESPN does not get everything for $20 million. Unfortunately, the trend has been that reported bad news for the unnamed conference rarely turns out to be wrong.

The trend really is the bad news reported for the unnamed conference actually isn't as bad as the reality.

No it doesnt. BE basketball schools currently recieve about 1.5 million per school. Basketball income for the remaining schools actually wasw cut by about 2/3rds.

Aresco has commented on underreported revenue and there have been mentions of Fox Sports 1. Look I am not saying the TV revenue is going to be double but with CBS and Fox I could see the total value of the package being somewhere 22 million to 30 million depending on a handful of factors. Plus we still have revenue from the settlement and future tournament credits that Syracuse, Louisville, and Pitt earn.

Is the OP about what current Big East schools make or about the ESPN contract just agreed to with the incoming schools?

I see --- you're just warming up, sort of like the players before the real game gets started.

That would be outstanding. That said, the "second deal" Aresco has been talking about is a basketball deal, which may simply be the 2 million dollar CBS renewal that has been mentioned in the media but not finalized to the best of my knowledge. I believe there could be some confusion with Fox rumors due to the C-7 nearing a deal with Fox. To the best of my knowledge Aresco has never mentioned Fox in referring to the "second deal".

If we do retain enough second tier inventory to ink a seperate deal with Fox large enough to move us to 30 million, that would indeed be great news. I can say, the last rumors we were hearing was that expected media income to be between 2-4 million per team. Fact is, every rumor I have heard has turned out to be a complete disappointment (thought to be fair, I think some of the numbers I was hearing were quite true at the time as we had not suffered all the defections or the C-7 split---I heard very little after the C-7 split that I would consider credible).

Not sure what you mean. The new contract applies to everybody--the incoming schools and existing schools after 2014 get the same amount.

There will be no answers forthcoming this afternoon on any questions related to the "guaranteed exposure" in this contract. Promises are being made by ESPN that are not in the written contract. Some presidents are still demanding "answers" and "guarantees." The conference call at 2 p.m. is to have ESPN's Burke Magnus personally "answer" the presidents' questions. There is a good chance this all falls apart after 2 p.m.

How is Aresco to blame?

There was nothing anyone could have done to keep teams on board. Plus nobody ever promised ECU a huge TV deal. ECU is still making more money than before....so makes no sense to complaint out money you never had

The real culprit here was NBC that lowballed the BE. Perhaps one day we will figure out why this happened.

I hope so. We need to simply do a garden variety first tier/second tier deals with different networks. No neeed to sell our soul to a netwrok that thinks we are MAC weeknight fodder to fill time against the NFL on Thursday nights.

Funny, I was the impression this was a press conference call. Totally misunderstood McMurphys tweet. Of course, I misunderstood the tweet because MCMurphy claims the presidents have already signed off.
