kind of curious that it's for 2015. Wonder if it'll be other sports in 2014 and then fb for 2015.

it takes 2 years to transition from FCS to FBS.
True, but like UTSA and Texas St played in the WAC in 2012 after being in the FCS the year before.
2 Years after you declare you're intention to move up & are invited to a FBS conference. that's why Charlotte is joining CUSA in all sports except football in 2013-2014 but won't play football until the 2015-2016 league year

Charlotte is different because they are a start up program.

Texas St declared in Nov 2010 and their first year in WAC was 2012 season.
So, by that calendar- declared in March 2013, 1st year should be 2014. Unless one of two things:
1- they're going to be a FBS indy for 2014 season prior to 2015
2- they're going to make the FBS callup official after the 2013 FCS season, allowing them to play in the FCS playoffs 1 last time this year.
TXST took that long because they didn't declare before july 1st. so technically the declared in 2010 but on the 2011 calendar. had they declared before july 1st everything would have moved up a year.

I know no one else cares but App State, Georgia State, and Georgia Southern all have men's soccer teams. The Sun Belt does not sponsor the sport. I hope it works out for all three teams.

App St/Ga Southern to Sun Belt- 2015 season
The SoCon, C-USA, and CAA men's soccer membership are impacted, so the 3 Sun Belt schools should be able to latch on somewhere.

Sun Belt - App, Ga St, Ga So
CAA - Hofstra, JMU, UNCW, NE, Towson, W&M
C-USA - UAB, FIU, FAU, Ky, Marshall, South Carolina, Tulsa, New Mexico, ODU
Big East/America 12 - USF, UCF, Memphis, SMU, Temple, Cinci, UConn, Louisville (leaving in 2014)
Big East/Catholic 7 - Butler, DePaul, Providence, Seton Hall, Creighton, Villanova, Georgetown, Marquette, St. John's

My hunch is that C-USA takes the Sun Belt schools and possibly Belmont (independent), depending on when (if) Tulsa and New Mexico leave (can't imagine New Mexico staying if Tulsa leaves).

If the CAA loses another, they can take Adelphi (PA) and possibly NJIT. Hartwick, currently a soccer-only member of the MAC, may also be an option. Belmont is a little outside the CAA footprint, but they could be an option I their soccer program remains independent.

App. St. and Ga. Southern will be eligible for the SunBelt title in 2014, but not any FBS bowls.

http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/college/g...nce/nW4cm/

Quote:Georgia Southern’s move to the Sun Belt Conference is scheduled be announced at a news conference at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Statesboro, and the Eagles will be eligible to compete for all Sun Belt titles in 2014, according a person familiar with the negotiations.

After accepting an invitation to join, the conference is requiring that Georgia Southern declare its intention to the NCAA to move from the FCS level to the FBS level by June 1. Doing so will meet the NCAA’s deadline to be eligible to play on the FBS level by 2014, but it will also mean that the Eagles will be ineligible to compete for the FCS football championship in 2013.

The same criteria will apply to Appalachian State.

Neither the Eagles nor the Mountaineers will be eligible to compete in bowls in 2014 because that’s an NCAA rule and not a conference rule.
