Tulsa to the Big East (A-12)

UPDATE: The Big East Conference -- or potentially the America 12 Conference -- finally stabilized to a degree after a new television deal was reached and the "Catholic 7" officially departed (with the Big East name in tow). The league's next step is believed to be the addition of a potential 12th member. Tulsa is the only target, and something could finally emerge in the coming days.

ESPN Insider being who they are: not really digging up anything of their own, but really just linking an article from another source from a few days ago. In this case, they quote good ol' Chuck Landon.

Not that Tulsa to C-TBA isn't happening, but there really isn't any news from this piece. ESPN Insider is a joke. When my subscription runs out, I'm done.

What's the rush to announce Tulsa? Navy (if it comes ) won't start until 2015.

To reassure Navy that there will be a Conference Championship Game in the year that they join, best to have 11 members in 2014.

Get them in quickly so they can't change their mind and decide not to come; alla TCU, Boise, Diego.

Something tells me that the Big-12, Pac-12, or SEC is not going to be ringing Tulsa's phone in the next couple of years. Just a hunch...

However, while the MWC calling may be unlikely ... its certainly not impossible.

It would be very interesting if Tulsa had Aresco on line 1 and Craig Thompson on line 2, each making the same offer. What do you suppose Tulsa would do?

Gee thanks Marv

It would be a better deal for Tulsa and it would make Tailgas happy not to be in the Big Whatever Conference.

Ignore Aresco and talk to Thompson. Geographically it makes sense and having three opponents in CA opens up the state for Tulsa recruiting if they don't do much there.

You do know where Tulsa, Oklahoma is on the map and where California is right...If they are serious about recruiting they better be begging to join the A-12 and realign themselves with Houston and SMU.

Quote:If Western Kentucky were to leave for Conference USA, the Sun Belt may once again dip into the FCS ranks for a replacement and a new 12th member. Richmond, Sam Houston State or Central Arkansas are legitimate targets if they were willing to make the leap to the FBS ranks.

Really? Of all the expansion targets out there they choose Richmond and Central Arkansas. I know Richmond was mentioned briefly in that FOIA email but this is the first time I've seen CAU mentioned.

Pretty funny.....Tallgrass does love CUSA and may opt to stay in some fashion! I think the only other poster that may be more enthusiastic about CUSA no matter who leaves or what the news there is must be MU ATO.

Richmond moved into a new 9,000-seat football stadium. They're more likely to go to the Patriot than to upgrade to FBS.

All true. The new stadium is on campus and there is no room to expand. That being said, Richmond is a private. Which means no state funding or bonding to build.
VCU following the GaSt/ODU/Charlotte model is far more likely to happen.
