It could only be a neutral site game if the neutral site game agreement allowed for it (as it would for an in-conference neutral site game). It can't be an away game: the home school typically owns the rights, so the conference of the away school can't sell them, without the home team's permission.
I get what you're saying. The point I was trying to make was that if CBS was already planning on broadcasting such a game as part of a contract they have with another conference (and they have a few), then the "appearance" would still count. Obviously, CBS wouldn't have the rights to an away game, but an away game *could* be counted as an "appearance."
And I think the way the contract is written that CBS doesn't really pay per appearance, but rather just a lump sum and if the appearances meet the quota, then CBS gets their money's worth.
In any event, it isn't going to be more than 9 games on CBS. C-TBA still has 100+ games going on the ESPN family of networks, plus all games on digital platform. Basically, 2/3 of the games will be on TV of some sort. For the CUSA schools, that's a huge upgrade.

Unless I missed the fine print, I see nothing in that release signifying any of those games would be shown on over-the-air CBS.
Having said that, I can see Louisville/Temple getting "over-the-air" status next season.
Congrats.

Two things: it's an extension of an existing contract (not a new contract) to air games on CBS (not CBSSN); the release notes that games will be on CBS Sports (not CBS Sports Network).

I wonder if it's the 12 appearances- if it could be 4 conference games and 4 OOC games. Yes it'd be 8/4 for appearances, but would make it equal for conference/OOC games.

I would have thought the same at first... but i'd wager that there's no clause to "over the airwaves" CBS. It's strictly "CBS" (which could mean any of their networks).

CBS isn't paying $3M per year to put the first picks of games on CBSSN. Plus, Matt Sarzyniak verified that it is for CBS OTA through his sources.

How do we know it's $3 million per year?
