East-west would be an obvious way to go.

East: UConn, Temple, ECU, Navy, UCF, USF
West: Cincinnati, Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, Houston, SMU

Doubt Cincinnati would be pleased with being in the west.

You just as easily can do a North, south
N.. UConn, Temple, Navy, Cincy, Memphis, ECU

South.. USF, UCF, Tulane, Tulsa, Houston, SMU.

Yep, and I love that east division. Each one of those football games are against someone I am interested to see ECU play.
Nice, but I wish they would have added So. Miss. That would have capped an awesome west division. Some history between those guys...

If a member leaves during the TV contract, I think Southern Miss is in....they just seem to fit with this group...especially if its UConn that leaves. As well, there is a remote possibility that Army could decide they want in at some point and in that case, the league probably goes to 14 FB and 12 all sports.
That would be my preference...So. Miss-west and Army-east. I think this becomes a good conference again. Solves travel costs, includes rivalries gives the Army-Navy game a whole new flavor.04-cheers

I'd bet they switch Cincy and UCF.

This reminds me of the debate about MWC divisions. BSU fit better in the east but presumably preferred to be in the west to preserve California recruiting. In the end the conference just did the simple thing and put BSU in the east where it fit. I'm guessing "C-TBA" will do the same and go east-west with Cincinnati in the west.

There may be a lot of politics in play to put together the divisions.

Texas and Florida are nice national recruiting areas for teams.

Basketball rivalries may have a say.

Who knows? There may be some input by the networks.

Zipper divisions and split the Texas and Florida schools. Each conference school gets to play in each recruiting hotbed of those two states. Would help the conference overall, from a recruiting standpoint. Would have to keep rivalries as permanent crossover games.

Yup. The east is much more fun. The west division schedule looks like a typical year in CUSA. And people cant figure out why I preferred moving to the MW. Its not bad, it just the same ol' sh**. Pretty depressing that this is what all the manuevering and shifting has amounted to.

Screw zipper. Houston should play Tulsa, Tulane, SMU, and Memphis every year.

UCF has never had a problem (to my knowledge) with the idea of a zipper with UCF being out west. Heck, even when it was Boise/SDSU era realignment it wasn't a big deal, as long as the zipper protected UCF/USF. In C-USA there were no day drive conference games so even worst case scenario, the most coveted rivalry possible is protected.

^^ This ^^

The big question is deciding team #6 in the west.

Id like it to be Navy if for no other reason to than to make the west be at least a little different CUSA. However, it probably makes the more sense to just divide on a geographic basis---which would put Cinci in the west. The other option wuld be to divide north-south. This is actually more viable than some might think. Northern schools would play 3 cross divisional games. With 5 teams in Texas, Louisianna, and Florida, the northern schools would alway be making pretty consistant trips into great recruiting grounds.

What would have been your preferred line-up in the MWC and would/could it realistically have happened (ie were there schools that wouldn't have gone for the line-up thus making it an unrealistic expectation for Houston)?

Cheers to all the BE/C-USA fans for seeing this through, good list of schools and nothing too crazy for traveling. Quality teams in all 3 major sports with regional match-ups. Nice. As a native Houstonian would have liked to see Rice get in, lord knows the Owls fans deserve a break.04-cheers

If this is true then this just solidified the conference. I highly doubt Houston and SMU will go out west now. The Eastern counterpart to the MWC will probably end up the stronger conference in money if they keep this up. Having Tulsa also gives them another regional partner.

Funny how moves like this are suddenly possible when the C7 is gone.

I am curious to see what other schools the fans of the schools in this conference would like to see invited in order to get to 16 for reasons of a future conference tournament.

Depressing, maybe. But not surprising to anyone that has been paying attention the past 15-20 years.

I'd rather have that west division than the alternative... just sayin.

For those that don't think there is a difference or an upgrade for the 7 that have moved now....

Avg Sagarin rating of Cincy, USF, Temple, UConn, Navy last year 78.6
Avg Sagarin rating of Rice, Marshall, UTEP, UAB, USM last year 127.8

you say that's not fair 2 years ago USM was awesome.
CUSA 5- 87.2
however, the 5 from the Big East same year- 57

oh and the CUSA 7-
2 years ago 89
last year 88.4

Please, no. 12 is enough, Tulsa isn't bringing another penny to the league as it is, and if this thing goes to 16, then members will be making $500k a piece. ESPN doesn't give a crap about this new addition, all they do is report it.

Im not sure what you are asking, but what I would have liked to see was 4 moving to the MW. Say, Tulsa, Houston, SMU, and S Miss (could be Memphis also--distance is similar). The idea would be 2 8-team divisions. Nine game schedule with 2 crossover games. The new MW eastern division would have looked like this--

Air Force
Wyoming
Colorado St
New Mexico
Houston
SMU
Tulsa
S Miss/Memphis/BYU (pipe dream)

Thats a nice new look division that maintains rivalries and is not too horrible for travel. In terms of home games, we would see the Air Force Acadamy regularly. We would play 2 state flagships. Theres some solid basketball there. The main thing to me is that at the very least---its different. By the time we split into divisions it will be hard to tell the difference between the Houston 2012 CUSA schedule and the Houston 2014 C-TBA schedule. Like I said, C-TBA is not going to be a bad league. But it looks so similar to the current C-USA that its hard to work up alot of enthusiasm for the move.
