You recall that the issue that was raised was whether the MAC would be making a better offer to JMU, and the counter-argument was made that instead, UMass would get a better offer, the MAC would be at 12, and then there wouldn't be a spot to offer.

So the relevant question for the topic about UMass is not whether it might be an interesting add to somebody five or ten years in the future, but whether it is an interesting add in the next year or two, should Major Conference realignment explode again after the MD lawsuit is decided. If UMass only stays in the MAC "until it starts winning again", that'll likely be longer than any other of the East Coast experiments by the MAC.
