USC, unlike UCLA, decided to hire a coach who has been to the Sweet 16 in this century. 03-nutkick

With his wife and previous professions, he should fit right in with that Hollywood scene at USC.

I was thinking the same thing. He'll attract more upstanding student-athletes like OJ Mayo and Reggie Bush. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

RE: OT: FGCU coach - this was quick:
FGCU only paid him a little over $150K and USC is paying over $1 million. That's a no brainer, especially for somebody working in an upwardly mobile position...

But he was in for a big payday/raise and would have had at least a 5 year grace period at FGCU after a Sweet 16 run. At USC, two substandard seasons with perhaps single digit wins will get him fired.

He'll always be able to get work based on this year's Sweet 16 run. College basketball coaches almost always get 2nd (and 3rd...and 4th) chances so even if he doesn't do well at USC he'll still have some other gig down the line.

I heard he was making $150k at FGCU and at USC he'll be making $1m.

So, two years at USC is worth 13 years at FGCU.

well, state income tax in FL is 0, i don't know what CA is but maybe 10%? throw in Cost of living. To live the high life in LA = $, not sure about where FG falls on the cost of living standard. OF course, there is no comparison between the two jobs. IF he does well at usc, he might jump to the nba, if he bombs out, he could land another lower tier job with nice buyout. Better ? is who USC will hire after next season for its football coach, maybe jack del rio?

His USC income is only part of the package. If he experiences any kind of success, there will be a ton of endorsement deals and other associated perks that FGCU just can't match...
