I just have a feeling it's going to be the American Metro Conference.

AMC ... easily memorable acronym.

Remember the AMC Gremlin? The AMC conference could get one of these for Aresco to use as his company car.

Your post was funny to me Wedge, because the negative for me with AMC is that I think of sub-standard vehicles when I think of AMC.

I am 53, so I can remember the old AMC vehicles. I don't want to affend anyone, but would we want to name our conference the "KIA" conference today ?

I looked it up & AMC was bought by Chrysler & renamed "Eagle" in 1987. That was 26 years ago.

So, it may be an age thing. If you are under 40, AMC probably doesn't have as negative a connotation as it does for older fans like me.

We had to get out for the same reasons that UConn, USF & Cincinnati tried to do the same...we won out and got the last lifeboat so we kinda understand how they felt.

For a school like USM they lost all of their rivals...Tulane-Gone, Memphis-Gone, ECU-Gone, Houston-Gone and not to mention the schools of the orginal C-USA.

USM is now stuck with Rice, Marshall and a bunch of Sunbelt/FCS call-ups...that not good.

...my first car was a 1970 AMC Hornet - paid $600 for it in 1985... it lasted about 4 years for me - got me thru the bulk of college...not all that bad of a little car...not much 'pickup' in the straight 6, but it could climb a hill like all get-out...guess they had the 'jeep gear ratio' dialed into it... wipers didn't work - couldn't get parts (vacuum tubes) - also, reverse gear needed about 5 minutes or so of warming up before it made an appearance...so I had to 'back in' parking alot... but overall the rig served its purpose.

ok - sorry for the dissertation, but... throwing some mild props to AMC - RIP... 03-lmfao

When you said Hornet, the first thing that came to mind was the Silver Hornet used in the Pink Panther movies. Probably wasn't an AMC, though.

03-drunk03-lmfao...nope, and not the Hudson Hornet, either... this car was 'between' the AMC Rambler and the...well, Gremlin, I guess... BUT, not as far off from the PP Silver Hornet as you might think... in fact, Mr. Bond HIMSELF was pretty crafty with an AMC Hornet:

Bond Driving AMC Hornet...no, REALLY!!!

...this one is a few years 'newer' than mine was, but it had the same suspension package needed to perform those 'corkscrew' ramp jumps... I only did a few of those, as I tend to get vertigo... 03-lmfao ...the Matador plane option was pretty popular back in the day as well...04-rock

LaTech is great addition to CUSA. Just missed the top 25 last year and were ranked in men's hoops for part of this year. Solid in both sports and in a state that borders Mississippi

Might as well make it the American Apple Pie, 4th of July Conference.

This conference will last 1,000 years!

Everybody will want some "soft warm pie" 03-lmfao

(04-02-2013 03:12 PM)Afflicted Wrote:  In the USA Today article, the writer makes a good point in that Tulsa brings potential in basketball. Since realignment is almost completely driven by football, it's easy to forget that men's basketball is the second most visible and sellable comodity in college sports. A league that may have average football (Gof5 conferences) can increase it's income and exposure significantly if it can build competitive basketball and send it's teams to postseason tournaments. This is especially true of small conferences that have a hard time keeping up in big-time college football. Every Gof5 conference should be thinking just as much about basketball as it does about football before expanding and sending invitations to new members.

Programs that get Men's Tourney bids make alot more $ than they would getting a minor bowl invite with far fewer expenses. Look at the stack of $ the A10 will be getting for their performance in this year's tourney. All 5 invites won their first round game (LaSalle,Butler, St Louis, VCU, Temple) and LaSalle made it to the Sweet 16. With Butler, Temple & St Louis leaving the A10 the remaining programs will get to split the tourney credits that the leaving schools earned. Pretty sweet. That national TV exposure the A10 got from CBS/TBS/TNT/TRU is priceless too.

That is just funny. I am picturing Aresco tooling around in this thing... You have to be able to laugh at yourself. That was just funny.
