Haha good stuff. The refs weren't really bad last night though. But if they hadn't handed the Rangers games 3 and 6 then there wouldn't have been a game last night.

Yeah, no way the series should have gone past 5 games really. Every game I kept thinking the calls would eventually have to start evening out but it kept getting worse.

To be fair, Holtby made some sloppy plays that cost the Caps a few goals here and there. When the Rangers made mistakes we just couldn't seem to capitalize. MoJo was awful. I was hoping they'd move him down and play Fehr or Brouwer with the top line.

Yeah, I thought the refs couldn't get any worse than game 3 and then game 6 was way worse. Even a slew foot that should have been a match penalty and instead the Rangers get a PP from it. But yeah, overall I think Holtby was really good. Last night was nothing special, but he wasn't bad either, he got put in a lot of tough spots. Throughout the series he did a pretty good job of matching Lundqvist.

MoJo was horrible all series, so many bad turnovers and so many blown opportunities off of beautiful passes from Ovi. Erskine was really bad the last few games. Greenie had his share of mistakes throughout, but he always does.

I don't know, I think we have a good future under Oates, but I think we could've gone at least to the conference finals this year if we got anywhere near fair officiating. By the way, anyone hear the "Ref you suck!" chant after the should have been roughing against Callahan on Chimera last night? I started that 02-13-banana

Try games 3-6. They were a complete joke for the vast majority of the series. The pinnacle was game 6 when they failed to call a single penalty against the rangers. No, they were far from perfect little angels either.

Well yeah, they were bad all the way through, but particularly those two games. NYR, Boston, Pittsburgh always get calls so I expected it to some extent, but not near what it was in those two games. Like Holtby said, they slew foot Greenie then go on the power play for it... Absolutely ridiculous. Tons of other examples but that's just terrible. Where's the "this is mind boggling" gif?03-banghead

Another one that was really bad was game 3(maybe 4? I think 3) when Holtby tried to fire it to Fehr for a breakaway and it got knocked down and they scored on the empty net. Holtby said when he went to make the pass he didn't really think it was risky because the two options were it either gets through for a breakaway, or gets knocked down with a high stick. I guess he didn't realize the refs weren't gonna call anything against the Rangers. Either this dbag is 4 feet tall on skates, or this was played with a high stick.

Tyypppical DC sports fans...excuses, excuses, excuses. Face it: King Henrik was too good for the Caps, and too good for Ovi. For my thoughts on the conspiracy, please see the gif in the link listed below. The refs didn't make the Caps not score a goal TWO games in a row.

Hey does anyone have the time?
Oh, nevermind, it's five past Holtby.

Bartender: An Ovechkin? What's that?

The NHL wanted their major media markets represented on tv and they got it. Just look at who is remaining.

Henrik was great, but not good enough to win the series if it had been called evenly. And yeah, everybody's seen that gif, but did you see earlier in the game when he actually got back and made a good defensive play that gave NY a 5 on 3 off of not just one but two terrible penalty calls? He still should have been playing hard and just hoping they don't call some BS like that again, but still. And well game 6 should have been a match penalty, but before that there should have been at least a couple power plays we could have scored on. Game 7, the Caps just played terrible. There were a few obvious penalties let go early that I guess could have lead to a power play goal and made a completely different game, but that's just kind of reaching for something to complain about when there really was plenty to complain about in 3-6. I'd expect them to swallow the whistles as much as possible in a game 7.

It was all a BIG CONSPIRACY by Bettman. You guys are right. Not like the Rangers had the fewest penalties on them all season and are the most disciplined team in the league or anything...

When cheaters cheat, they get penalized. The Rangers took advantage of the cheaters. Time to go stomp on the hearts of Boston fans!

Well great game tonight, and a nice reminder of how much we should hate Philly. Holtby with the shutout, Joel Ward with the hat trick in a 7-0 win. Third period line brawl including scumbag Ray Emery skating down to Holtby's crease and forcing him to fight. Holtby clearly doesn't want to go, Emery grabs him then the ref stands and watches while Emery pounds away at the back of Holtby's head and Holtby tries his best to cover up and protect himself. Then Philly makes Emery the third star of the game.

Wooooooooo!!!!! There's hope for the future!

Mike Vogel ‏@VogsCaps
#Caps announce that they will not renew the contract of GM George McPhee and that head coach Adam Oates will be relieved of his duties.

Off to a pretty slow start. Been playing pretty well most games, goaltending hasn't been good. Holtby hasn't really been himself for about half his games, hopefully he steps it up more consistently soon. Peters has been flat out bad in his starts.

Won for the third straight time tonight though. Statistically they're very good and should be two wins better than they are. They don't quite pass the eye test for me but that could be from years of DC sports abuse.

Yeah, good to get a little streak going, needed it and hopefully we keep it going. Like I said, goaltending hasn't been too great so far, I think I saw that Holtby and Peters both are at a career low for save percentage. So I expect them to pick that up, especially Holtby, and I think we'll start winning a lot then.

I'm glad the losing streak didn't go any longer than it did, because they've been playing well and you want them to keep buying in and keep doing what they're doing. You can count more on that happening when they're getting rewarded with the W for it.
