"Syracuse is the fifth-most popular team in New York (7 percent) , trailing only the Yankees (28), Giants (13), Mets (10) and Knicks (10). The Orange is ahead of the Bills (5), Jets (4) and every hockey team in the state."

I'm glad it wasn't "7th most popular college team" as I initially thought it was. But out of New York's 19 millions residents this poll included only 813 of them? Sorry. I don't give a damn who you are, but if you're research is that poor it means very little to me. The scientific power and validity of this poll would seem to be quite low.

This isn't to say that Cuse isn't NY's most popular college team or that they are top 10 in all sports. Just that this "research" is terrible.

They must be part of the 1% "other"... but hey, Rutgers is going to deliver NYC to the B1G!

Surveys typically use a very small statistical sample to predict outcomes. The surveys/polls that news organizations use typically have ~1,000 responders and they use those numbers to predict the responses of 300 million Americans. 813 is not an unreasonable survey size. Methodology and integrity of the organization conducting the survey is more important than the survey size. I have no knowledge of Siena College, good or bad. Since they are not listed in the survey I can't see the point of them skewing the results.

I do know ALL JD Power surveys are useless because:
1) They accept money from the subjects of their surveys, and
2) They use customer lists provided by their customers/survey subjects.
That equates JD Power being hired by the DNC, getting a list of members from the DNC and predicting 92% of Americans think a democrat will win the election.
