ACC pays $12.8 to $22.7 million
Couldn't find the on-line article, but the print addition of the Atlanta Journal Constitution has an article by Ken Suglura about the ACC GOR ending the speculation of GT to the Big 10. In the article it says;
"As an ACC member, Tech will receive $12.8 million in television money for the 2014 fiscal year, fees that escalate to $22.7 million by the end of the contract."

If that information is accurate, it supports the $18 million estimates a lot more than the $20 million quotes from the last few days. And since it is very precise and isn't doing spin, it has some credibility. Author was quoting Tech Associate AD Hogan in the article, talking about the GOR, "'That, in effect, stops the music,' Hogan said."

The $20 million is an average over the length of the contract. It is back loaded. All conference television numbers are averages and all of the contacts are back loaded. So this changes exactly nothing.

Not that I want to be nit-picky, but the thread title is misleading. The ACC isn't paying, they're receiving.

RE: ACC pays $12.8 to $22.7 million
If this year's ACC payout is $12.8 million/school, then the per-school average over the length of the contract is significantly less than the Pac-12. This is the first year of the Pac's 12-year ESPN/Fox contract and each Pac school is reportedly getting $16.8 million this year, escalating every year, with an average of $20.83 million/school/year over the entire contract.

Wouldn't be surprised if the AjC got it wrong. Wouldn't be the first time that's happened

You are correct that the author quoted the Associate AD, but it was the author that, incorrectly, put forth the numbers you mention. Easy mistake, no harm no foul.

I don't trust ANY of these numbers for anybody. None of the players in this drama have any incentive at all for anyone to know the "true" numbers.

The only thing we know is that four of the five conferences have GORs, and that supposedly means they are all happy with whatever money they are getting. The one conference without a GOR is the one that will probably end up with the most money.

You don't know at what intervals those contracts jump, either. The Pac 12 could start higher with smaller bumps and the ACC could start lower with larger bumps. This really means nothing.

The ACC is still #5 in the pay order.

If $22.7 is an accurate number from GT Assoc .AD, and is the new average payout of the ACC (versus what the author is obviously incorrectly implying), then we have just moved up to #4 in the pay order. It has been reported by multiple, reputable outlets that the ACC's average earnings have eclipsed $20m per year with the addition of UofL, ND and the GOR.

At $22.7m per year, we have just passed the Big 12 (even with 14 teams + ND) in Conference Revenue. To be honest, I have to believe that UofL didn't raise these numbers much if at all, it was ND and the GOR. UofL just held their own and didn't dilute the money for anyone.04-rock04-cheers

ACC is paying. They pay each school after getting paid by ESPN.

The author is quoting the Associate AD before and after. I wasn't saying he was directly quoting the AAD. I was saying it was pretty obvious he got his numbers from that source.

What's been reported is the ACC told those reputable sources they were getting $20 million. It didn't come from someplace like the SBJ and didn't come with details. It did come when the ACC was trying to put to rest instability rumors, so its suspect. The author is very clearly saying $12.8 million next year and $22.7 in 2027, not an average.

We've still got ACC spinners on here, even though the GOR DOES put to rest the instability rumors.

RE: ACC pays $12.8 to $22.7 million
my hunch is that the amounts probably ramp up fairly quickly but then don't go all that high at the end of the deal. It'd be interesting to hear if this is typical, or ACC got this to get equal with the other conferences in short order. If that's the case, towards the end of the ACC deal, ACC could be signifigantly behind other conferences.

Quote:For Barron, who said he discussed the decision to sign the grant of rights with FSU Board of Trustees members and alumni, it was about stability and the potential "significant" revenue gain of a conference television network. With the grant of rights in place a league network is more realistic, and the revenue increase is reportedly more than $3 million - going from its current $17 million annual payout topping $20 million.

(Update: Sports Illustrated reported Tuesday that the increase from $17 million to $20 million annually would NOT include a network and is predicated on the addition of Notre Dame. That means there is potential for the annual payout to increase further with a TV network in the future).

LOL. The number released by the Big 12 last year included exit fees from all the teams jumping ship on that conference. Now everyone assumes that is part of a yearly payoff when the exit fees are one time payments. Keep making up stuff if you want.

The only thing though is- big 12's new tv deal goes into place this year- they will be getting a lot of money from tv this year.
