Not from a population or academic standpoint...Maryland and Rutgers have no state competition as do most of the other state schools.
From a monetary standpoint, they are all home runs....

The part of the discussion that the Dude's sources were not privy too: "Now that we've signed, sealed and delivered the NDA, we can tell you we are only moving to the Big Ten if the Tarheels do."

RE: Delany: B1G spoke to several schools about joining B1G
If the big 10 could have got UVA and didn't pull the trigger even solo that is just dumb on their part. My guess is UNC/swofford pretty much punked the big 10. I don't think any acc school's were interested in the big 12 as first strike move. A few acc school's would like to join the sec but those school's aren't on the sec radar, clemson, FSU and maybe GA tech. The ACC school's the sec wanted didn't want the sec or would only accept post other school's leaving, i.e. va tech and nc state post uva and unc leaving the acc. As for the big 10, clearly they wanted UNC and were trying to missouri other ACC school's to get UNC to move. Unc wanted to stay in the acc and worked it to get the ACC GOR. At some point FSU realized, they were getting missouried by the big 10 and went for the ACC GOR. UVA probably couldn't hedge anymore if they were interested in the big 10, so they had to make a decision and went with the ACC GOR. What doesn't make sense is if UVA and the big 10 had a deal, that it didn't happen, so they probably didn't have a deal. I think the big 10's main target should have been FSU for spot 15, than it really wouldn't have mattered who got spot 16, uva, cuse, etc. My guess is the big 10 wanted to bluff everybody and land uva and unc for spots 15 and 16.

It would be nice to get back to the 9-11 team conference.
Factor in geographical divisions and you essentially have an alliance of two 8-team conferences.
If the goal was a 16 team B1G with a geographical split, you'd essentially have two new conferences:
B1G East (ha!):
Maryland
Michigan
Michigan State
North Carolina (?)
Ohio State
Penn State
Rutgers
Virginia (?)
B1G West:
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Minnesota
Nebraska
Northwestern
Purdue
Wisconsin

Shame on you Big Ten for being your usual traditional selves. Shot yourselves right in the foot on this one.

I could see how people could feel that way. I disagree but by no means think that everyone has to agree with me in that regard. It is all a matter of opinion when it comes to what you are speaking of.

That's IF they wouldn't decide to use pods to create changing divisions.

Right, if they divided the pods correctly. Four pods of five teams each would still allow everyone to play at least once every three years. I would love the 9 to 11 team conferences again, too, but it's just not happening.

If 20 team conferences happen with geographical split, you'll eventually see official splits and the return of 10 team conferences.

Probably when content is is purchased as single user, but as long as digital platforms include bundled cable packages, those channels need a lot of content.

Which is why your school ought to oppose further expansion of the Big Ten. If the B1G gobbles up more and more teams and gets that big, then someday the "old" ten Big Ten schools might do like the Mountain West group did, and restore their old rivalries while leaving the newer group in a "dog's breakfast" of a conference consisting of scattered schools that joined more recently.

Only if the split was New/Old and not East/West or North/South.
A 20 team B1G split East/West would probably leave Maryland in a good spot.
