Yeah, but the SEC and B12 just lost the Cotton too. So they both are looking at the Gator to fill in one of their top bowls. If they ACC gets it, we out maneuvered the B12. If not, it's hardly a failing of the league.

Go here. You can sort the list by most recent payout.

Whoever listed those payouts on Wiki was confused. They listed the total pay out for the Gator Bowl as per team payout. The Gator does not pay $7 million per team. Thats the total payout for both teams. Same confusion for the Sun Bowl.

SEC already has the Gator. Big 10 is giving up their spot and it appears they favor ACC over the Big 12, I'm guessing due to proximity. Plus, the Gator is very familiar with the ACC.

Due to the past relationship with the ACC, 2 Florida and 1 Georgia team in the ACC etc. it would indeed be a failure to lose the Gator Bowl bid to a league from the plains and heartland.

Given the geography of the two conferences it should be quite easy to "out maneuver" the Big 12 and it would be pretty pathetic if they received the tie-in and not the ACC.

Here is a reliable list for 2012-13: http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/bowl_...edule.html

Unlike the ACC, who may be in an all or nothing position with the Gator, the B12 has at least two viable options to replace the Cotton. It currently sends its number 2 non-BCS school to the Alamo, whose payout is 3.175m and which hosts the P12's top non-BCS school. The B12 sends its number 3 non-BCS school to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in Tempe for a 3.35m payout.

If the B12 wants a presence in Fla, going after the Big East's slot in the Russell Athletic might be the play.

As I've noted elsewhere, the Gator switch to the B1G has turned out to be a bad decision, probably because it gets such a late selection. Even having the ACC number 2 non-BCS selection generated higher rated games than the Gator's current tie in. The proposal to return the ACC number 1 non-CFP school to the Gator, with Notre Dame also in the mix, should be a no brainer.

Here's an interesting article on the Gator's recent decline in status: http://www.southernpigskin.com/SEC/view/...g-prestige

RE: Bowl News!
If we can assume the Gator returns to the ACC the top 5 bowls (not counting the playoffs or access bowls) are Orange, Gator, Russell Athletic, Sun, and Belk (Pinstripe may jump over Belk). Those bowls can generally count on having one of the following teams: FSU, Clemson, Va Tech, Miami, Louisville, UNC, or Notre Dame. That's pretty good. Even the Belk would take NC State or Duke if the others were taken.

How so with the current selection requirements we have as far as slotting bowls with teams....aka the GT/BC rule?

First, the bowl folks are more concerned about tickets sold than TV ratings.

Second, if you wanted to prove the diminishing attendance angle you would have been better served using this past Gator Bowl attendance of 48k with Northwestern and Mississippi State. UF and Ohio State at 61k with two 6 win teams, even with both being teams that draw good to bowls, isn't a good comparison when a Top 25 UVA team drew less against an 8 win Texas Tech team.

RE: Bowl News!
Whatever else happens, I think the ACC needs to do what some other conferences are also considering, which is to eliminate bowl selection by ranking below a certain level, and instead do it by geographic region. Here's what I mean:

1. Orange
2. Gator

South
Russell
Music City

North
Pinstripe
Military

Whatever's left
Sun
Belk
Kraft
???

NOTE: If the Belk Bowl can get its stuff together and upgrade the payout it could be a solid #3 behind the Gator.

Still hearing there's momentum for # Big12 and # ACC to sign with Russell Athletic Bowl for 2014. Nothing official yet, but promising.

That sounds nice. Should up the ante a bit, too.

I thought that was the point of the Orange Bowl?

We tried that in the old conference. Miami & VT went. WVU, Louisville, and Cincinnati went, too. I don't remember you guys ever going there. But now that the tickets will be easier to come by (ahem) maybe you'll finally show up for the party?

See, rather than take the bait, I responded to your insult with a cute little pun that didn't denigrate anybody's school, then you wrote that... feel good about yourself?

...and we've played in three Orange Bowls, one while in the Big East (the exact same number Virginia Tech played as a member).

I beg your pardon, Chris... I didn't go back far enough, but I see that you are correct. Props to the Orange!

However, don't think for one minute that will stop me from talking smack to a 'Cuse football fan! VT & SU are old football rivals... the rivalry is dormant, but NOT dead!

RE: Bowl News!
The debate the acc with gator was that gator wanted to select who they got. They wanted to bump a 10-1 wake for a 7-5 Clemson for attendance? Acc insisted on we we send them our second pick no matter what. Acc told them he'll with you.

I guess gator convinced they are going to get more than fsu Clemson or vt with attendance
